Got the new headunit installed

Got the new headunit installed last night. Pioneer DEH-7800. Nice unit, lots of features. Still got the stock speakers so far. I did throw in an 8" MTX sub and amp that I had in the basement. The install was a piece of cake. It was the uninstall that was the huge pain in the ass. I hate those damn tools that you need to remove the stocker. I couldn't get the tools to release the left side of the headunit. My god I think I was out in the garage for 2 hours f'ing with it. Finally came to the conclusion that I wasn't going to get the damn thing out the right way so I pretty much proceeded to tear it apart. Now it's a pile of bustedness.............

Holy crap! You killed it. Dude...4 allen wrenches and I pulled mine out with a little finess.

You didn't need the special tools. Just the 4 allen wrenches and mine slid right out. Did you take off the trim around the radio? If not I can see how it would be hard.

I knew how to get it out the right way. I have had it out before. Not sure what the problem was but I could not engage the left side clips at all. The right side ones were cake. Took like 15 seconds but man the left side was hell..........

GOD DAMN man and I thought I had a hard time gettign the ****** out and used a flat head scred driver on teh tabs to get it! I ripped the face plate off to get mine out. BUT get this the stupid stocker still works after I poped it back on. I was curious. I'm trying to install my Alpine HU but the fuckers at BestBuy (the stero installers) sold me the wroung harness! Grant it the stupid package said 01 mazda and up.

Looks good yaggie! You like the sound? I'm impressed with mine so far...
I had the same problem removing the stock stereo as well. The left clips would not engage. I managed to shoe-horn myself into the footwell to see what was going on, and eventually got those stupid clips to release. Sorry to see that you had to kill yours to get it out. But I bet it felt good to smash that thing, huh? :)

Yeah, love it so far. Tons of features. I just need some more stuff to add to it now. I still got the stock speakers. I did add an amp and an old MTX 8" sub that I had laying around. Thinking I am going to add components in the front and probably a 10. Still debating on 1 or 2 amps.... Gunna do some fiberglass too I think. You have no idea how bad I wanted to take a hammer to the radio when I couldn't get it out. I had to fight the urge bad.........

I just installed my Pioneer DEH3900 last night. I have to agree- getting the factory HU out was a PITA! I bought my HU from Crutchfield and they sent me those removal tools. I was able to get mine out in one piece after about 20 minutes.

And BTW, my Crutchfield experience was awesome. The HU was priced about average online, but it came with a free harness, a free mounting kit and free DIN removal tools- probably close to $30 in savings. I think I paid about $130 shipped.

I haven't figured out my new HU yet, but the extra power is nice. I didn't know my factory speakers could sound as good as they do now.
