Got Swirls?

It's a 7 year old car that has lived a life in the city. I got a fairly nice discount in purchasing the car because of this condition. Now it's my job to bring it back. The thing is, it really does not look like that from a distance. Only under certain bright sunlight angles.

Same with my car. I cut $900 off the seller's asking price because I pointed out so many things about the car that looked like s***. They didn't even wash the car before selling it.

Bingo! So many people don't realize what they can do to knock down the price of a used car.

Hey I dont know if you guys remember me, but I had posted a while back about some paint issues that I had with my car.....well anyway I had tree sap all over my car or something and Mr. Detailer told me to claybar it well I did and it did not do a whole lot, but it did help. The only thing is now I have some swirl marks after using the cleaner wax and then putting on a coat of polish and wax.....I don't know why but I think that it might be the pad that I used on the buffer....so my question is what do you guys recommend for a pad???? thanks in advanced

What kind of buffer are you referring to? Often if you buy a cheap one at the local store, you'll be limited to one type of pad that will work on that machine. Worse yet, some machines don't even have separate pads available for purchase.
I use the Propel line of pads exclusively for my PC 7424. http://www.exceldetail.com

Do you still have the sap on your car?
Was there a recent coat of wax/sealant on the car before the sap fell on it?

can these results be achieved WITHOUT a buffer? i dont trust myself with a buffer....oh and i dont own one either. not that my car needs this kind of attention but, if i want to get 'froggy' and go above and beyond just wanted to know if i could do this myself and get the same if not very similar results.

thanks
Jeff

I looked at my dads buffer today and the pad does look like it is interchangable and yes there was three coats of wax put on two day prior to the sap incident..... please help its like when I rub my hand across the paint its like rubbing my hand across sandpaper...I'm clueless of what to do...

You CAN remove swirls by hand, but it's a real PITA. For the swirls I showed in the beginning of this thread...I would never attempt removal of those by hand. It would be extremely time-consuming and difficult. You'd have a couple of very sore elbows/shoulders by the end of the day, and you'd probably have less than spectacular results too.

You can justify being worried about using a high-speed buffer (rotary), but using a dual-action like the Porter Cable 7424/7336 is nearly foolproof. It's very safe for beginners.

If the clay didn't work, I'd try a strong paint cleaner like Klasse All-In-One then. Or if you want to try a possible quick fix, you can try putting a few drops of isopropyl alcohol on the spots (IN THE SHADE) and allowing them to soak into the sap for 30 seconds or so. Then try to gently wipe the spots off with a soft microfiber towel. Isopropyl alcohol will not harm the paint, but it will remove any wax that is on the car.

but the thing is it's not spots...its all over the car. It's kind of like it is dirty, but yet I had just washed it....you know when you rub your hand across a car that hasn't had wax on it since it came off of the showroom floor..well that is what my car feels like. do you have a website that I can go to and find a new line of wax and also a new buffer?

Yeah, the raindrops went through the tree and landed on your car right? And then the sun baked the spots in? I've had those spots (actually I have some on my roof right now dammit) and a polish via PC always fixes the problem. Even just using AIO via PC usually fixes it.

I get most of my supplies from www.Autogeek.net and www.ExcelDetail.com
Either one of those places carry terrific products. I got my PC at www.coastaltool.com, but there are other places as well, like Lowes stores, www.autopia-carcare.com, etc...

I hate pollen...I washed my car yesterday and she's already got a light dusting of pollen on it.
