Got my Zaino kit today! (not used yet, no pics, sorry!)

I bought the Zaino Bros. 'Total Protection Kit'

Has everything I need. My claybar was getting old, so I figured I'd give the Zaino stuff a shot, a claybar is included in the kit. I was also getting low on car wash concentrate, and there's also a bottle included. I've only heard good things about this stuff, plus I gotta support a local company. (They're from NJ) The total was about $90 for everything. Expensive, yes, but it's supposed to be worth it!

I'm going to try to get this done after work tomorrow, but I probably won't be able to finish it. I have to:

  1. Wash with Dawn to get rid of the old wax
  2. Claybar
  3. Re-wash with the Zaino wash
  4. Add a coat of the polish
  5. Wait
  6. Remove the polish
  7. Use the gloss enhancer spray
  8. Add another coat of the polish
  9. Wait
  10. Remove the polish
  11. Use the gloss enhancer spray
  12. etc., etc.

Here's the fixed list of what needs to be done:

  1. Wash with Dawn to get rid of the old wax
  2. Claybar
  3. Re-wash with the Zaino wash
  4. Add a coat of the polish
  5. Wait
  6. Remove the polish
  7. Use the gloss enhancer spray
  8. Add another coat of the polish
  9. Wait
  10. Remove the polish
  11. Use the gloss enhancer spray
  12. etc., etc.

i want before and after pics.. and pics of naked chicks in sudz washin the ride -=p
 
Zaino is TEH best! EVAR!
Really quality stuff. Smells great too :)
My usual run through (make sure to get/use the ZFX stuff, it really cuts down on the time between coats)
I have yet to do the claybar, but that is on the way...in the way you have described justin.
-Solid wash/dry
-Z5 swirl remover/polish (not quite as good as 3m though for swirl mark removing)but very good for shine
-Z6 (enhancer)
-Z2 polish (sick, absolutely sick)
-Z6 (enhancer)
literally every time I do it, it looks better than the day I picked up my car from the dealer...well, except up front where a few bugs and rocks have proven the mazda paint as thick as a piece of tracing paper...
Depending on thoroughness between 4-10 hours.
The longer you leave the polishes on the better they work from my experience...I can never leave them on long enough cuz I gots $hit ta do whenever I think I have enough time... ;)

I was gonna get the same exact kit and still might. It's just a little too expensive for me right now. But you really shouldn't have to wait in between because you have the ZFX accelerator right? That should speed things up. This will be a good 7-10hr day well spent.
 
I know they say use Dawn to get rid of wax --- DONT ... its not pH balanced and when the suds leach into the tiny gaps that you cant reach, they can start the rust process faster than normal. Just wipe down the car with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover.

Yeah. I was told never to use dish liquid on a car. Too strong and harsh for a car finish.

This is true; but I have noticed that leaving the polish on longer before wiping off helps; so I'd say maybe, take some of the time you save that you would have allocated to waiting between coats, to letting the polish sit on the car. (in the shade is better, though Zaino is ok with doing it in the sun, just dusk/dawn/shade is better from what I've experienced)

(BTW-business must be REALLY good @ Zaino because that site has undergone quite an overhaul...I know it doesn't look like much now, but a few years ago it was essentially text with a number to call. good for them)

I don't know where you heard this before, but it is not correct at all. Even if it was true, it's not like your going to use Dawn over and over. once in the spring, and if you like to strip the wax and start over again in the fall ( i don't, I just don't see the point of building layers to only strip it before winter). I can assure you that there are much worse chemicals and pollutants, dirt/grime that are far worse then dawn that you drive you car in every day or let the car sit in daily. You use it before Zaino'ing. That's it, done. Never again.

I haven't used the 3M stuff, but there are plenty of wax cleaners that will do the job just fine if you are paranoid about it. Just make sure to clay afterwards so you have a perfectly clean, non oily (from previous waxes and stuff) surface so that the Zaino can bond correctly. This is not your typical Car wax we are all used to. There is a procedure, but it's not hard at all. It makes the 3 step waxes from Mothers/meguiars seem so much harder. I'll never use them again.

ZFX mixed with z2 or z5 should sit for a bit for optimal results ( Depends on how warm it is out though). If it's warm enough you may not have to wait at all. It's really easy to take off so don't worry about it like other off the shelf waxes. No hard buffing at all unless you put it on very thick.

1 oz did my car 3 times, including wheels twice, and even the door sills.

Awesome, thanks for the tips.

I washed my old car once a year with Dawn (in the spring) to get rid of all the junk, and then I re-waxed.

Did it for 3 years, the car still is fine :)

Yeah I guess I was thinking that it wouldn't neccessarily be good for each wash to be with dawn. 3 times over three years is nothing. I never remove my old wax, just normal wax though, is it something that needs done?
 
Weather is perfect for this. Mostly cloudy, 75 degrees.

I get home from work at 6, and have until about 8:30 before it gets dark. I should have enough time to wash with Dawn, claybar a few spots (I just claybarred the entire car in early April), and apply a single coat of the polish. Then tomorrow, I'll add a coat on my lunch break, and one when I get home from work (weather permitting). Then Saturday, I'll put some more coats on (probably 2). I can't wait!!!!
 
aren't you risking scratching the car because of driving and getting dirt and pollen on your car from the drive? It would be cool to do it over the span of 2 days if you put your car in a garage or had a cover for it so no dirt or pollen would get on it so you wouldn't have to rinse it off before aplying polish.
