got carbon fiber

It cool that someone doesn't like the look of CF on cars. I know there are a lot more guys out there who don't like the look either, but they just don't say that they don't. I think it looks tight. Picture never do carbon fiber justice, maybe you might like it if you saw in person. :) The weights savings on our Proteges would be a lot more than the savings on the WRX since our hood isn't made of aluminum from the factory.

Allright, so my wife asks me. "What do Carbon Fiber hoods do?" I look at her blank faced and say, "They are lightweight and allow for greater heat dissipation, cooling the engine compartment and allowing an increase in horsepower due to the decrease in temperature and the vehicle being lightened." I keep eye contact long enough for her to believe I know what I am saying. Then,
I rush to the P5 forum and ask you guys. What are the benefits of Carbon Fiber Hoods?

Ohh... this has got to be the best post I've read this morning. I'm trying to imagine how you have your "serious" looking face on as you explain the significance of having a carbon fiber hood over stock metal hoods. Hope you threw in some technical "car" jargons in there so it would futher add to the mystery of the benefits of having a CF hood.

I love the CF hood looks. It really has to be a racer thingy I think. A few years ago when I first seen those hoods, they looked funky to me... but I've grown to really want one for my car.... it's really something not a whole lot of peeps out there will all enjoy.

Although, I read someone posting how CF hoods do not chip like regular painted hoods when hit by pebbles or "things" that floats around while driving on the highway. That WOULD be a cool benefit for having a CF hood. I hate the chips that dings my paint at the front end, so I would gladly swap for the CF hood. You could get a bra to prevent chips too, but you'd have to clean underneath it often to get the debris that would rub against your paint... lot of hassle doing it that way. Not to mention a bra will wear out after a few years too.

Except for one thing, I prefer to buy one with pre-drilled holes so that my spray valves for my windshield wipers would fit. Most do not come with pre-drilled holes. For $600+, I'd expect to lose none of my current features... so I'll wait until I have the time to find someone who can drill the holes properly for me before getting a CF hood for my MP3.

Yeah totally! I should have got an Emmy for my performance. Like I said though, I might like the CF hood if I saw one up close, but I have my doubts. And even if I did decide to get one, like you I would have to wait until I could easily keep all my accessories.
Oh, by the way, what do you think of those magnetic hood bras like the one on www.protege5online.com? It looks pretty clean and you wouldn't have the problem of debris collecting under it.

Also by the way, we picked up our P5 from the dealership LAST NIGHT!!! :D :D I'm so stoked! It sucks though-my wife gets to drive it to work since I have the truck so I won't get it until Saturday!!! Oh well.

I never noticed that magnetic bra on Protege5online.com, but it looks like a good add-on to me. The bras I wasn't recommending were the synthetic leather/nylon style ones. The magnetic one here is pretty cheap too and made out of safety-coated magnet metal that can probably last a long time, so I wouldn't mind having one on my car until I ultimately get a CF hood. :D :D

The only thing about a bra was that I had heard the paint underneath wouldn't look the same after having it on there for a long time...possibly because of the lack of exposure to sun and stuff....is this true or just bull?

Yeah, well... hehe, I have to tell you that it was proven with my previous car. Had a synthetic leather type of bra on it for MANY MANY years... never took it off but I did wash underneath it thoroughly every-now-and-then. Took it off one day after MANY MANY years and it was a tad bit different under it versus outside of it. Note, after my 2nd year with the car I never EVER waxed, or polished it for the next 7-8 years. hahaha.

So it can happen, but probably only if you really don't take care of your car, like me :p . I'm sure if you take it off once in a while and waxed the covered area then chances are the paint will match for a long time. Maybe not forever though.

Although, if you think about it... it does take several years of mistreatment to mess up the paint like that, but it only takes a few pebbles/debris to ding the crap out of your car hood.

Those are my thoughts on positive and negative benefits of using the car bra. I think a bra that can be easily removed is much more attractive since you would be more willing to clean around it.

I have to admit that I'm the more lazy type when it comes to consistent cleaning. Just too busy sometimes to get around to baby-ing things (or people who) that needs a little TLC. :D

Um...Chaos here and um Rodscalip, i went to your website and didnt find s*** on the Pro 5 let alone anything with a mazda name. Next time tell us the real website before u send us on wild goose chases and yo, u described the benefits of the carbon fiber hood damn near to a tee!:D

i think the hoods are running about 499.99 and i might be able to get a hook up on them i just dont know about the shipping and handling you know especially since they are carbonfiber....very fragile
I thought carbon fiber was extrealy strong, or is that just me?

carbon fiber is strong as far as like rocks and stuff hitting it but being shipped by mail and boxes and shiz falling on it i dont know besides the bulk of it also makes shipping expensive

I like the carbon-fiber look, at least how it would look on my yellow P5. I sure would like to see a pic of the black w/ yellow weave on another yellow P5.

I have a bra (first one I ever got - I mostly avoided them for the reasons stated earlier). I like the way it looks and I don't mind removing it for washings and infrequent rainstorms (water against the paint, I don't want). But I live in AZ, so premature oxidation ;) is a bigger problem here. Proper paint care is the primary point for me.
