I mean if you're not all that interested in how your rotors look, then just buy regular stock sized rotors and just upgrade the pads and lines. If you know how to make your own custom brake setup, then by all means upgrade the size of the caliper.

I don't know of any upgraded caliper kits made specifically for the Protege. Of course what you do is entirely upto you. I won't be upgrading my rotors, just the pads and lines. At this time in my life, I can't justify spending the $1200+ dollars for a big brake kit.

Crossed drilled rotors are mainly for looks and the added cooling doesn't really become a factor unless you're a LeMans racer or you frequent Buttonwillow, Thunder Hill, Laguna Seca etc.

i dont' know about lemans but i've already blown through a set of rotors because of warping due to overheating. so if i can get a set that will cool better and therefore last longer then so be it, i'll get 'em.

besides, i don't know what the cost comparison is in the U.S. but in canada there isn't a whole lot of price difference from the OEM rotors. they are $130 CAN a pair for stock and $210 U.S. for brembos set of 4. with exchange and all the price is almost the same.

Well, you do kinda live in Canada. When I lived in Michigan I had my EBC Rotors Cryo'd. Those lasted me a while longer.

should my rotors not last as long because i live up here? i've read your comments on having them coated or something to protect them from the weather but overheating is not a weather issue, correct?

perhaps you were refering to the price....don't really know.

Sooo...Did you do the install yet?

I have seen the same rotors on ebay and seriously want a pair (simply for the looks I guess).

I am just waiting to see if anyone that got them put them on, and how easy it was do to so? If you paid a shop to do them, how much did they charge you?

any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

sorry, haven't done it yet. i am getting rims and springs so i am waiting until i can do it all at once. no sense in doing the rotors this week and then taking stuff apart next weekend to do the springs. i still don't have SS brake lines. they are harder to come by than i figured. i will let everyone know when i finish the install. peace

CMack...What brand of paint did you use on your calipers? They look brighter and glossier than many others I've seen. Nice job

Hey Tex,

Thanks for the compliment. Yeah those calipers sure do look spiffy at the time I took the picture!

Guess what? They don't look like that now! I got recommendations from a few people to use that high temp spray paint and use that....so thats what I did.

Thats how the brakes looked like a month after I painted them. When I painted them, it was shortly after I got the car home from the dealer. The calipers werent that dirty to begin with, but I scrubbed them with a wire brush and all that, and got them pretty clean.

Unfortunately, the paint is coming off. I mean, I saw what looked like dust on the caliper one day, and I used my finger to brush it off, and lo and behold all the damn paint came off with it!

Right now my calipers are an embarassment. I hate when things dont look right. I did get my hands on some of that red foilatec brake paint. I figured that I might as well try the $$$ kind of paint to see if that looks any better.

I just haven't gotten the chance to sit and re-do the whole process. Its very annoying to know I did this once already, and I am already doing it again, hence my lack of motivation to get it done.

Hopefully it will get done soon, and I will have the desired results. But yeah, every time I see the pic of my car, it reminds me how for a few weeks it looked pretty bad ass....

That sucks. Well look on the bright side. You saved me and anyone else who reads your note some trouble. I am thinking about painting mine, but wasn't sure about paint. Now I know not to buy the spray stuff. Thanks for the tip.
