Google Earth road courses

I thought it would be cool to start a thread for people to post Google Earth bookmarks of their favorite driving courses. Google Earth is free software available at http://earth.google.com. You can create bookmarks, then save them and attach them here. Make sure that you fill out the description with notes about the route. Attach multiple bookmarks if need be. You will have to zip the bookmark file in order to attach it.

I have attached one place that I like to drive when there isn't any traffic.

acutally i'm doing something like that.. only i'm going to do with maps.google.com so u don't need an external program.
I'll keep u guys up to date on what i'm doing..

Wow, that program is sweet! I just spent a few minutes looking at my neighborhood, and its amazing how clear it comes out. I don't have the most advanced setup (AMD Athlon 64, 2.4 gHz, 128MB video card, 15.4" widescreen) but it looks stunning on here. I will definitely have to play around with this some more.

*subs* I'll upload my fun runs later.

Yeah, you can save images with Google Earth, too. I just like being able to organize my bookmarks and add other people's locations. It makes it easy to find the route and get directions interactively. We could create a whole library of great driving routes.

way cool, i was just talking to kpabap about this the other night. any way to keep track of milage (including loops? like road you drive over more than once) with google maps?

This is the best I can do around my hometown, no hairpins or anything and road is a 2 lane road. It's probably really straight compared to the places you guys go to have fun but it works.

Specs:
Name: Hairyman Road
Location: Round Rock, TX off of Sam Bass Road
Legal Speed Limit: 40
Length: about 2-3 miles
Fastest Time: 1min 27sec (staying in my own lane)

I don't do that during the day because of the traffic on it though. I've got a video on my old computer and I'll try to upload it in a day or so.

This one doesn't look like much but is as fun as it gets when it's 12am and just a couple minutes from my house. It really isn't much because in 1 direction, it's pedal to the metal until 1 corner where I have to brake down to 60-70 to stay in my own lane and then back up to where I was at.

guys, post some of the roads you like to go on
these 2 spots are great! and hey cellerator, next time in austin you can ride these twistys, they're in la grange and fayettville (not too far from you).

the first one is in la grange. its crazy because your on a cliff and going downhill. this pic gives no justice to how scary this twisty can be since its on a major highway and the lanes are narrow......plus theres a cliff on one side and boulders on the other, so with the addition of oncoming traffic (a lot of 18-wheelers)and the steep hill, you cant see ahead of you AT ALL!!! so going 30mph is crazy fun on this one. any faster and you risk running into the other lane (tons of traffic here) but the the narrowness is rewarded with a banking turn onto a long straitaway at the end (top of pic). at 80mph my mp3's tires start to squeal!!!!!!

this second pic is a road i just discovered (thanks to a sheriff who was helping me find a faster way out of all the traffic while running from hurricane rita). i drove it a total of 3 times over the weekend because...........its so damn fun!!!!!!! theres hardly EVER any traffic here......maybe a car or 2. the turns are 90 degrees and on a HIGH BANK! so at 85-90mph you REALLY feel like nascar. the lanes are wide and you can see far ahead of you so you dont have to fear swooping into other lanes on the curves. i swear that road put the biggest smile on my face. theres a few more s-curves later down that road that cant be seen on the map. next time us Houston guys are goin on a cruise, we're goin to this spot and seein just how fast we can take those curves. i dont think spinning out would be too much a problem. theres fields all aroudn the curves to forgive mistakes.

Thanks man, they do look like a lot of fun. I know 1 of the roads near Lake Austin/Travis (don't remember which) is really fun to drive on because it has banked corners and lots of hills. My sister's exbf told me about it and I just havn't had the chance to go have fun. Only problem is a lot of traffic through there and lots of cops.

where I live its not even on there, the town is, but not the ******* sex roads.

same with northeastern CT. all the roads are 90% covered in trees so they dont show up on googlemaps.....and its a low-res area still it hink

as I stated earlier, I was going to post my video that my cousin took of me driving the road at 12:30am sometime a couple months back. It's nothing spectacular but it's a road that I like to go on since it's close to my house and different from the other roads around my place.

sorry about the quality, it's from a camera. My video
