Good radar detector??

Who cares if laser jammers are illegal in California because the chance of getting caught with one are slim and the fines are smaller than the cost of a laser ticket and your insurance rates going up.

So either way you get busted lol. Most laser jammers don't work and are expensive. They're suppose to prevent you a ticket with a "heavy"(not small) fine if caught with a jammer not give you one. Cops can even arrest you and confenscate your car, all depends what the cop wants to do. Chance of getting caught might be slim but if you do, it could be alot worse than a speeding ticket.

Avoid all battery operated detectors because they are sleeping 85% of the time to conserve batteries which makes them weak.

I somewhat dispute this... I can't confirm or deny the sleep thing but I have had Escort 8500's (plug in) and Passports (battery) and I didn't find that the Passport was any less effective than the 8500.

a radar detector is a tool. If you do not understand what it does, how it does it and what other factors are in play, it will be VERY good at informing you that you have recieved a ticket about 10 seconds before the lights come on

My RX-65s are known to go off forty-five seconds before the cop is even visible (two hills away). Now, laser detection is a whole 'nother issue...

The only detectors I'd mess with are the Passport 8500x50 or higher (equivalent models by Beltronics I believe) or the Valentine 1. If you're going to take the plunge, buy something that works. Don't cut corners.
