going to the track on friday

I've tracked 2 other cars, but neither was a front wheel drive with any power. I guess I'm just going to try launching from different rpm ranges and see what happens. launching on the street and launching at the track are two different animals, so I'll just have to wait til friday night to see what works the best. shifting has never been a problem.

I was playing around with launching yesterday...i let the rpms hang around 3k and then just playing with the clutch and throttle...no easy step by step procedure you just gotta get a feel for it. I had a few good launches but the rest..either the car bogged down or spun the tires really bad. My stock tires are getting pretty worn though, don't remember them spinning as easy...(don't think the test pipe i recently got affects it that much).

I swear shifting is 10x better if you remove the counterweight thing. I've had it off for awhile now but put it back on yesterday just to go back and compare again....I took it off again right away! I swear I can shift better and faster with it off. Maybe it feels a little 'cheaper' but you can definitely feel what's going on a lot more with it off. You might try that out if you havn't already.

I like the weight on there. I don't really "grab" the shifter when I'm racing. I kind of "push" and "pull" it. it goes into gear really easily if you don't monkey with it too much, and the weight helps it to be more precise I think. Anyway, I was pretty sure 3000 rpm was the sweet spot. I guess I'll just have to figure out how fast to slip the clutch and go with it. I'm excited.

Good luck! I want to go, but my friend's turbo'd neon (lol) keeps breaking down on him and keeps getting pushed back

tips? "think fast", other than that run your tank down to 1/4 tank b4 to save on weight.

Good Luck bro !!! I was there last week, didnt run though. If I'm not too busy this week and I feel like driving an hour up north lol, I'll stop by to cheer you on !!! lol

If you have an i/ic/bpv i would suggest no higher than 2k launch and a heavy slip, once u get a tbe and raise the boost, for stree tires, idle lol

2k really? I know the track always feels way slipperier than roads, but dang. I heard someone say they launched in 2nd too. depending on how early I get there I might give that a whirl.

2k rpm not 2nd gear. Dont worry about your clutch. Mines fine and im pushing more power and have been to the track plenty of times

well the whole slipping severely thing makes me nervous. I can already smell clutch just thinking about it.

I'll definitely launch lower than I was thinking.

when I did my oil change/intercooler/motormount, I took it for a test drive and upon shifting to second, lost nearly all traction with the fronts.

that was my first "holy crap" moment in my car.

yeah i got my best run "14.3 @ 99" by not doing any burn out driving around it then letting out the cluth at 2k sharply while naily it shifting at 57k to 6k.

I think I am going to aim for shifts at about 5500 - 5700 rpm. also, I want out of first as quick as possible. I am really anxious to see how the girl does. I'm hoping for 13.7ish runs. I think I can pull it. we'll see. hopefully it will be a little chilly out.
