Glove box rattle...

Over the past few weeks, my glove box has developed another rattle. This time it's like a loud clicking sound when the passenger side goes over even moderate bumps. I'm sick of this. The glove box is coming out for good. I can put my registration in the center armrest.

**** you Mazda. Make me wish I had bought a goddamn GTI sometimes.

I'm not quite have a glove box rattle issue but figured if anyone else was having this odd sound: a metallic rattle in the passenger door and the rear-right passenger door. I've taken the right-rear door apart several times and have not been able to stop the issue. Does anyone know how to take the door completely apart? I'm not sure how to deal with the window/motor mechanism. The sound seems to be coming from the handle area. Any suggestions would be great - its driving me nuts! :)

I had a rattle in the front passenger handle... ugh that was nasty. I usually only could hear it when my bass hit. Made it VERY hard to isolate... until I stood outside the car.

If you take the door panel off with the window up, you can see that yellow foamy s*** bolted on up at the handle. That needs to come off to access the bolt(s) for the door. I don't remember if you can just pull it off or if it has its own bolt, but it gets in the way and has to go. Once its gone you can loosen/tighten the studs for the door handle. I did this without having to muck with the window motor, if memory serves. Of course, my memory is very bad...

Even if you're not big into stereo, you should read some of this guy's advice: http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi ... Vibration control will make a night and day difference. I even put extra CLD around that area after I had tightened the nuts, to absorb some of the vibrations that probably worked it loose in the first place.

Bumping this cuz I got teh glovebox rattle this week, drove around with it open for a while, rattle went away. I've got another rattle somewhere in the shifter/ebrake/cupholder area too.

Will try the glovebox fix for that rattle and try to narrow down the other rattle later.

I as well have developed a buzzing sound in my shifter/ebrake area as well but whats really bothering me is a sound coming from the lights above the console. Not the dome light behind our heads, but the two little LED looking lights that you click on and off. It seems random, anyone else experience this?

Check the e-brake button. I remember reading that people had rattling sounds from that.

holy crap you're right, I heard a buzz yesterday and put my hand down to the ebrake and put my thumb over the button and it was buzzing, stopped when I touched it. Anyway to fix that?

I can't remember if someone posted a fix or not. I thought I remember someone posting it, but I don't know if it was this forum or one of the others.

I'll do some searching. It's very annoying. I've never had any problems with noises with this car but now all of the sudden I'm noticing the ebrake buzz, the glovebox noise that goes away when you push it, and also a creaking sound coming from the middle console armrest. very annoying.

Heh, mine was whisper quiet for a month or three... then when the noises started, it was like an avalanche. Some I've fixed, some I haven't. It's frustrating because this is by far my favorite vehicle out of the 10 or so that I've ever had, and it drives like a dream, but the noises really work on my OCD. Just goes to prove the Iron Law of cars:

1) cheap
2) fast
3) quiet

You can have any two, but never all three.

for the glove box rattle: get some velcro tape and use the loop side. you can wrap it around the left latch hole a few times and put one layer around the right side latch hole. it will make the cover sit more tightly and prevent the latch from jiggling and shaking in the hole it sits in when closed. check out the fix by hank3 in this thread: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/show...Glove-box-rattle...&highlight=glovebox+rattle in his pics you can see where he puts electrical tape. use the velcro tape there instead. it worked perfectly for me. i also used zip ties like hank3 did to hold the heater duct in place.

as for the hand brake, i tightened up the brake cable anchor by tightening the nut you see when you take the center console apart, then i stuffed cotton batting into the handbrake boot. i just have to go back in and fix the damned button rattle now.

for the creaking in the arm rest, i found mine was shaking, which was making most of the noise. i made a shim from an old rubber bungy and put it between the console and the carpet in the back, down by the rear center passenger's feet. that has helped loads. my stuff in the console still jiggles and makes noise, but the console itself is no longer participating..

maddening, eh?

ocd indeed. it's sucks when you hear a noise and can't unhear it. it's like being poked in the mind.

Well, I had to put the duct back on last night... With all the subfreezing temps and snow in the past week, the girlfriend's feet got cold while we were out on a road trip Monday. She asked if I could turn on the floor heat and I had to explain why she wouldn't get any on her side. (toilet) You know that look your woman gives you sometimes...? Yeah that look. I got that Monday evening.

(if you're reading this Karen, :p)

But I did use my butyl rope to pad any areas where plastic would touch plastic, so the duct should be noise free from now on. I've come up with a possible solution for the cover vibrating while the car is moving, but I need to go back to walmart to see what the things are called.
