GI: Affordable Intake Manifold

Just want to let everyone know that I'll be out of town for the rest of the week. I'm a FIRST Robotics Mentor and we're headed up to Cleveland to compete in the Buckeye Regional Event. I'll check the site occasionally, but my responses will be slower (and shorter) than normal.

I feel like I might have hinted at this, but just in case people are still worried about EGR. I have come up with a solution that will allow people to keep it if they want to. I'll be building the prototype over the course of the next few weeks and plan to have the manifolds on the my site by early May.

If you know that you want to get one and have a spare intake manifold feel free to send it my way so that you can avoid the $75 core charge when you actually buy.

Do you think you'll be able to mount the EGR in the stock location? Sorry to be a pain in the ass about EGR, I know it would be much easier to just delete it, but I would really like to keep it with the stock tube to prevent a CEL and keep the engine bay looking clean.

There has got to be a way to fool the stupid EGR. EGR is such a horrible system. I would bet that any emissions that are reduced from the EGR system is negated by the car running worse due to hot filthy exhaust air being pumped back into the intake. Putting a boost sensor on the EGR without an accurate IAT or knowing the chemical makeup of the gas cannot possibly create an accurate air/fuel mixture, and cars will run worse because of it.

I don't know if I'll ever get around to it, but I'll add scoping the EGR boost sensor, solenoid and valve signals to my laundry list. Anything can be faked if you know what to fake.

Pope, do you need the entire manifold or can one send half? Does it have to be a protege manifold or can it be a 626 manifold?

I can work with any FSDE manifold - Probe, MX6, 626 , or Protege. If its a dual runner manifold it will be best if I get the entire thing.

any more teaser pics im excited all my mods are going to be done at once.. will be like a new car :) !! anyhow just curious i know your busy on the manifold also

I have to get the exhaust manifolds done before I get too deep into the intakes, but I'm going to get started on the prototype intake soon. The prototype will be fibreglass over foam, but from that I will make the mold for the carbon fiber. I'm looking forward to getting this rolling.

I'll be working on the prototype starting next week. Materials are on their way and should come together pretty quickly. The prototype will be made from a foam core and fiberglass structure. From that molds will be made and then I can start pulling parts. Look for updates coming pretty regularly.

Pricing should remain very competitive. I haven't finalized anything yet, but under $500 for sure, and Im hoping for closer to $400.
