ghetto cat removal: uploaded pics

well, the MSP has 2 cats... the second is pointless... just a silencer and clogging the flow...

Courtesy of a few hours work and the welding skills of my friend and a few bucks at auto-zone... i am now running 1 cat and much smoother boost...

does it look ghetto? well, i paid about $20 and the results are very similar to those payin 200-300 for the same thing!
:D :D

it's not pretty, but i guess it gets the job done. it's better than punching out the cat (real ghetto)
exactly... the only thing thats gonna see it is roadkill... and I dont think it'll mind :D

ya, i did it this way so that if necessary I can always put the stock cat back... cats are expensive... punchin them out is pretty pricey when you need to put it back (although there are no emissions here so I have no worries)

I like the idea and your work is no tbad at all.

Is it louder? Any cels?

I want to do the same but I would like to add 2.5' piping from the first cat back to the stock muffler.

no cel... the o2 sensor is between the 1s2 and 2nd cat... so as long as there is a cat before that o2, there will not be a CEL. the sound isnt a whole lot louder, but it's definately a bit deeper w/ a nice low growl...

i have noticed that the boost holds a bit more consistant, torque seems to come on a tad bit later with less backpreassure, but it does feel a bit stronger in the mid-range band.

all in all, it was a nice change for $20 and a couple hours of labor(thumb)

Will you pass emissions with one cat?
nope, any modification to any emissions system should make you fail. now that depends on who's testing, but you should fail. also i believe the first cat doesn't do as much as the second cat did. i think the second was the more important of the cats emissions wise
