Getting new key?

i bought a MS6 off of a salvage auction, the car only came with the smart key (card looking one). Now, im going to need an actual key incase the car battery dies or the card battery dies.

i called my dealership and they want like 200$+ to key and program one of these keys which is a joke.

any suggestion to getting a key or two made without spending dealership prices?

Go on eBay for a second card if you want one. Also, there's an emergency key in the card itself, I forget exactly how to get it out though. Unfortunately they didn't give you a valet key with your purchase.

There is a metal key in the smart key, pull out one of the bottom corners and you get the key [EDIT: wait, I knew something that Steve didn't??? :D]. You pry out the edge of the other bottom corner to get at the battery when your smart key starts to die.

You can get a key cut to match the metal key; that will let you open the doors. But, in order to start the car, you need to have a replacement key with the chip inside of it (which deactivates the immobilization system), and as far as I know you need to go to a dealership to have that made up. You're right, it sucks that you're held hostage, but maybe someone knows of a better way, or of a dealership in your area that won't charge so much.

honestly im in the process of rebuilding the car right now so i havnt even actually droven it, but i didnt know there was a key inside of the smart key. I think what im going to do it just not worry about it, im not one for losing my keys. I'll keep a spare pack of batterys in the glove box and if the card dies i can just open with key and get excess to batteries.

if i gotta pay 200$ for a new key im gonna wait until i lose the first one if it ever happens

Hey I put a battery in my card and it didn't want to work at all I couldn't even open the doors with it! Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on what's wrong?

You might have put a bad battery in, or when you put it in you didn't put it between the two metal strips (there should be one on top and bottom, you have to slip it between them). You might also have put the battery in upside down, orientation does matter.

Put your old battery back in and see if it works still (presuming it wasn't all the way dead). If you have a second key card, open it up and try the battery in it; make sure to look at things carefully when you take it apart so you can see where everything goes, and compare that to the key that isn't working.

It had to be in right cause the red light flashed when I hit the button just nothing hapened. Doors didn't unlock or anything would it have to be programed?

Depending on how long the battery was dead the remote may have lost programming...
Heres how to program remote... Note if you have a spare remote you will need to program it at the same time...

Step 1: Open drivers door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and unlock the driver’s door using the power door lock switch on the door.

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn key to on position and return to off position. (IMPORTANT - use ON position NOT ACC position). Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. Leave key in the ignition.

Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door 3 times. (Door should be left open after this step).

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1 twice. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.

Step 8: Press any button on remote #2 (etc.) twice. Each time the ECU will respond by locking & unlocking the doors.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series of door locks and unlocks. You're done!

Cool thanks man! Just to be sure the battery size 2025 right cause I returned the battery when It wouldn't work than I found this site so I'm not to sure if that's the one I got?

I tried that and it didn't work anything else u kno of that might be wrong?

Just spoke to my tech. The programming instructions I posted will work for the flip (switchblade) key and the seperate key and remote fob. Unfortunately the credit card keyless remote requires the dealer computer for programming....
