Getting close for new tires

I've got a little over 47k miles on the OEM Toyo's (2021 CX-5) and I'm planning to go with Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3's when I replace them. I put them on my wife's Volvo XC-60 about 2-1/2 years ago and I am very pleased with them as far as performance in all conditions and tire wear. They have a 800 AA rating which is tough to match and they're also about $30 a tire less than CC2's.
If snow traction is at the top of your priorities, the CC2 is a better choice; CC2's are rated as "Severe Snow Service Rated" by tirerack.com and the Scorpions are not, but we have found them to be quite adequate for the conditions that we have encountered in New England.

I’ve had CC2 for some time now. Noisy after a while but definitely good on rainy days. But I would not put CC2 in the severe snow category. Nothing beats a snow tire in… snow, not even CC2.

I'm at 5/32 yet. Want to hit at least 4/32 so I can get my warranty credit. Been using DT for years. Thinking about sticking with the Continental CrossContact LX25s. What I have now. Been a great tire and have tested them out in a couple of good situations in the mountains. What are you currently running?
Need to get my winters off. I was mainly deciding between the Continental CrossContact LX25's or the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3's. I ended up ordering the Pirelli's last night since they had an $80 off a set deal going on. I get them put on next Wednesday.

Nice. Let me know how those go. Probably too late for another snow to test drive on the front range.

By the next tire rotation, I'll be doing new tires as well.

Preference, for me, is the all-weather, year-'round type tread compound.

Will almost certainly be doing the Nokian Encompass AW02 in 235/50-19. A little shorter than the 'factory' tires, so the speedo will read a bit faster. A directional tire better-suited to rain than my existing set of Nokian WR G4. Sipes and compound ought to allow very good wintry-mix grip, rain grip, and reasonable handling during the warmer months.

I do live in an area where a second set works for many people. But most just get along with a decent set of all-seasons. The icy stuff here, and the less than 18" of snow each season just doesn't last long enough or get deep enough to really need dedicated ice+snow tires. So far, the WR G4's have been great, but this past winter was definitely their last.

Interesting. I just saw these tires on a car earlier today. Wonder if they are as good or better than the CC2s many are buying lately. Or those competing with the CC2s.

Since they're asymmetrical, make sure they are installed correctly; inside/outside. Three of mine were installed incorrectly.

That's good to know. I should have figured that with the tread pattern. Thanks for the heads up.

Forgot which part of Denver you said, but avoid Discount on Wads and Coal Mine. They have now broken two of my studs. I switched over to the one further north on Wads by the Sam's Club and they have been much better.
The NW (part of the metro. They've been good. Most of my mileage is driving to work. But I think I'm close to 4/32 and with rebates on the Continental Cross Contact LX25 and the Pirelli Scorpion AS plus 3 through this month I'm looking to get these done soon. I'll have some value from the current Conti's. Been four years.

Hey just saw your PM, replied.

How do you like them? Too late to ask, probably, since I just ordered a set myself - getting them Tuesday. They seem like a good compromise on handling, wet traction, and noise ... according to the web :)

I like them a lot for those same reasons. The handling is excellent and they are a quiet tire. Can't speak much on wet traction as I haven't driven them through any heavy rain.

Based largely on the comments and recommendations in this forum, I just replaced the OEM tires on my 2021 CX-5 (having 43,000 miles) with the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 tires. Bought them at Discount Tires for $942 out the door. I got a $100 instant discount by starting an on-line account with DT and buying them via that account. The DT store is local.

I’ve only driven the CX-5 a few dozen miles, but I can readily tell the Pirellis are quieter than the Toyos that came on the car. The Toyos were quiet until about 30,000 miles, but then got very noisy. I also have a 2015 Dodge Challenger with the 5.7L V-8 Hemi and FlowMaster exhaust with no resonators. At a steady speed, the Challenger was quieter than the Mazda with its OEM tires the last year or so.

Since I just got the Pirelli tires yesterday, I’ll have to trust reviews on their dry, wet, and snowy weather performance, tread wear, etc. A characteristic not often mentioned is their rolling resistance. I’m hoping they deliver as good MPG as the OEM Toyo tires.

Thanks everyone for helping to make this tire buying decision a little easier.
