Getting 12V for visor mounted device

I would like to mount my GPS device close to the top of the windshield. Is there a power source I can tap into, say from the interior light, to save running a 12v line from under the dash which I'm prepared to do if no other way. Thanks for any advice.

I did that with my 1st Gen RX7 for my radar detector. I bought a 3.5 mm audio plug and jack, drilled a hole in the light lens for the jack and wired that up to the 12v line. Took the power right off the bulb hot points.

Then I cut the power cord to the desired length and connected it to the plug.

As long as you insert the plug with the GPS/detector off you will never short out the unit.

Sorry no pictures, sold that RX7 a long time ago and never took pictures of the install.

i tapped into the cigarette lighter for my GPS. But that's only hot with the key on. I later decided to look for a constant hot so my GPS wasn't always rebooting. I found that on the drivers side, under the forward door frame panel. Large gauge red wire.
