General Front Speaker Q

I have a $50 gift card for circuit city and I was just wondering if this is a good set of front speakers to get.

I'm not an audio head either, so I don't need component speakers or anything fancy.

And no, I don't want a reply saying buy something else from circuit city. I want to use it strictly for the speakers.

Thanks for anyones help :D

honestly the best thing to do is go to CC and listen to the ones in your style/pricerange. everyone has a different ear and what sounds good to you might be s*** to someone else.

go listen to them. although speakers on a huge board in a huge store doesn't exactly sound good. so i guess you will have to go with whatever you think sounds good at the time. it may sound different in your car. although none of those drop in speakers can compare to even a low end component system.

for the money, those speakers don't particularly offend me, butyea, definately go, take some of you rmusic and listen.

Personally, I'd stay away from anything that has more than one tweeter. A single 3/4" to 1" tweeter can handle all the upper range frequencies. These coaxial speakers with 2 or even 3 tweeters are overkill.

...but in the end, it's your decision (and your money). If you like the way they sound then buy them.

NO.

, and what they all said above
but basically, no - get something else from CC if you have to spend it there
go to a proper car audio shop and ask them, and save a bit more for good speakers
you'll enjoy it more in the end

I like them, I've got those same speakers, but the 4 ways, and the 3ways in the rear decklid. Just like you when I got em I wasn't after any sort of elaborate setup, just a better sound. Now I wish I had gotten the 4 ways in the back too.

*edit*

Nvm. These are for fronts btw. Not really concerned about the rears :)... For now...

My money would be that you will like the infinity reference speakers the best. But you should definitly listen to everything in your price range and let your ears pick.

I agree, you should listen to them. Speakers are 49% pricerange and 51% personal preference. (personal preference will usually win over if you hear speakers just above you range)

Don't the P5 have horrible speakers sizes though? Aren't the front like 6X8 and the back like 6 3/4 or something like that?

Forget about rear speakers in the P5. Its better to spend twice the money on front speakers than to spend anything on rears.

As for the front, they are 5x7/6x8 openings. With a jigsaw and a peice of 1/2" or 1/4" MDF, you can create a baffle to hold most 5.25" or 6.5" speakers. I would say that gives you more options for front speakers than most cars.

Horrible speaker sizes would be something like the 96 Audi A4 that only has 4" speakers up front. Unless you fabricate new door panels or build kickpanel pods the largest you can get into that year Audi is a 5.25".

you could build pods for the rear and mount them behind the seats... better for imaging, IMO the stock location sucks.

Hmm thanks guys. I went to Best Buy last night to pick up some stuff and decided to stop off at the car audio section and listen to some speakers. I didn't really have a preference to some, but it is true, listening does make a slight difference, even though I don't know much about sounds.

Chuyler, I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Thanks again everyone :) Big help in little ways.

I still disagree. With the absense of 5.1 surround sound in your car, any rear speakers are going to ruin the imaging. They pull the sound back away from the front of the car. As a result the muscians sound like they are behind you instead of in front of you. I tend to face muscians when I go to concerts. When I listen to music in my home I sit facing the speakers. When I watch TV the speakers are beside the TV not behind me. Rear speakers are just plain stu-stu-stupid.........unless you have a surround sound processor.

That's all I'm going to say here. To debate this, make your way to the rear speaker sticky.

<-- read sticky, point taken ^^still his money

if you havent bought them already. infinity is definetly high quality sound if you can find them in the right size and for a good price at CC. (first)

Thanks, nothing purchased yet. I do have a car show in 2 weeks though... dun dun dun.
