When i go WOT from 2nd. Anybody have same problem? This started hapening after recall work done.

Happens to me to sometimes. I hate it. I really want a short throw shifter and some bushing. I'm sure it will solve the problem.

yeah, when i try to shift quickly from 2 to 3, it happens if im not careful. think its a pretty common problem. I'm putting in mount inserts soon, hopefully that will help out.

The problem is not in the shifter, but in the movement of the engine on its mounts. Installing a short shifter and shifter bushings won't have any effect on this.

The short shifter may fix the problem for them. It's possible that they're just letting the clutch out too quickly since the 2-3 shift is longer. The SS would reduce the shift time and their letting out of the clutch too early wouldn't be a problem anymore. The bushings probably won't do crap for fixing the grinding, but it will make the shifter feel more precise and less mushy.

I've only grinded gears twice on this car and those times were when I was still learning. Yeah this is my first manual car, maybe i'm just not shifting fast enough for it to happen, I dunno. I do go WOT in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears pretty much daily and I never have a problem with grinding, before or after my bushing install. Could just be a lucky transmission or i'm just not shifting fast enough for it to happen.

+1

I think it's more a timing problem than an actual tranny problem. 2-3 is tricky, just takes getting used to.

The 2-3 throw is a little longer and the synchros take a little longer to mesh(especially at high RPMs). So your clutch engagement has to be adjusted accordingly. I added a slight delay and a check that its in 3rd, to my mental routine, before clutching out. The sound of a gear grind is awful and, once I added metal bushings, the feeling shoots right up your arm. It made me learn fast, 3rd doesn't like to be rushed.

Exactly. I had the same problem with my Eclipse and after I swapped in some bushings and a short throw shifter, the problem went away.

3rd gear is just too long of a throw in the MS3 and I think I'm just letting out the clutch a bit too fast when I powershift. And this only happens when I'm shifting hard at WOT. It never happens when I'm shifting normally.

Does a short throw shifter and bushings improve the vague feel of the stock MS3? I am waiting for arrival of my 2008 MS3 that I have on order and the only thing I didn't like on my test drive was how vague the gates feel.
