Gear box fluid

Not sure about an inspection hole. I just drained it out the bottom plug, and filled it from the same size plug farther up (which happened to be angled up so I can't just stick a hose in to fill it). I expected it to start oozing out after close to 3 qts but it didn't, so I stopped at close to 3.5. Drain plug also didn't have a washer for some reason, I thought that was weird too.

Where is this inspection hole you speak of?

Thanks! Looks like it would've been alot easier to fill from there as well. Funny thing is I know I've seen that thread before, but of course when I finally change the tranny fluid I forget all about it!

So apparently 3.5 qts will fill it to the very top of the inspection hole, and to get it just below that hole I think I sucked out about 1/2 qt. Definate improvement in smoothness with the MTF, despite how nice and clear (and light green!?) the original fluid was. Hopefully I'll remember to get a mangnetic drain plug for next time.

So, I'm coming up on 40k of road duty (no racing, yet). Figured it would be the right time to change the oil, and I'm definitely looking for an easier shift. Can I get away with just ordering 3 qts? It just feels like a waste to order the fourth quart for that last .07.

Just wanted to report in on running Amsoil Manual Transmission fluid 75w90; it is almost a little too thick for our cars.

It works really well when warm, but it takes a few minutes to warm up, about 2-3 miles for me. (I live in the mountains of West NC; rarely gets above 80 even in August)

I didn't notice a gas mileage loss, in fact; the exact opposite. I am getting 2-3mpg more.

I am very happy with it. Shifts much better than before.
