I have e few questions about installing the above gauges in my Mazdaspeed. This may seem like a lot but I want to make sure that I am getting everything right before I start hacking stuff up.

1) Where is our on board computer located?

2) Would it be better to hook up the A/F gauge to the wires coming off of the O2 sensor in the engine, or where they connect to the computer?

3) Which wire is senging the signal off of the O2 sensor?

4) Does anyone have a copy of the schematic for the pins and connectors for the computer?

5) Where is the best place to tap into the oil line for the oil pressure gauge?

6) What size T fitting will I need?

7) Where is the best place to tap in for the boost?

8) What size T fitting will I need for the vacuum hose?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

hrm, check out the MP3 section, most of those first questions are answered there.

I installed the Air/Fuel meter myself. No check engine light! Just TAP into the Blue, and Pink Wire on the Harness going to the 1st O2 sensor. For the Power, follow the instructions. Find a 12v Accessory positive for the red wire, so that the gauge stays off until you start the car, and find a good ground for the black wire. The Purple Wire is the wire going to the Harness for the 1st O2 sensor. You will have to lengthen this wire via butt connector, and run it through the firewall.

Damn, I have all the answers you seek, but I may not have time to answer right now. All these have been covered. I would be happy to help now, but I have to go to sleep. I work nights.

What tha hell:

1) The onboard computer is located on the passenger side under a sheet metal shield on the floor under the carpet. You will need a 10 mm socket with some extentions to undo 4 nuts that hold it down, as well as to undo the wiring harnes from the ECU.

2) Knowing what I know now, I would do it at the computer. That way the weather won't interfere with your readings. As a matter of fact, I may change the way mine is wired to be just like this!

3) This would be the Pink wire with the Blue stripe going to the 1st O2 sensor. At the ECU this is wire #60.

4) Yes here is the wiring schematic for the pins of the ECU:

This is floating around on the site somewhere.

5) This would be at the Galley on the back of the engine block. There is an oil fitting that us with the BEGI/FM turbo system recieved with our kits. Just contact FM Protetge or Spool Turbo
to get one. This oil pressure sensor is here:

6) See here if you need more details.

7) On the BEGI/FM kits, the Brake Vaccum assist line was tapped.
pre-testing640x480.jpg

It is located just in fron of the strut bar, and looks like this:

There is a one-way check valve in there. DO NOT CUT TO THE RIGHT OF IT!!! You will need to contact FM to get the fitting. It will have 3 outlets. Cap off the ones you don't use until you need them.

8) The size of the T-fitting you will need for the vaccum line will depend on the size of vaccum line you will use.

I hope all this helps!

um Why do u need a pin out of the ECU for gauges. Do u have an AFC? What kind of Gauges do u have?

First T off the vacaum line coming right off the top of the Intake manifold in the center for the boost gauge. Depends on the Oil pressure gauge. Greddy comes with a little fitting that goes between the oil filter. Other than that i would "T" off right after the oil filter. ECU is most likely on the left side of the Pass floor board. It didnt come with a "T" fitting?

Thanks a lot for the detailed information. I installed the Apexi turbo timer last week, and I am going to try to work on the gauge installs this week. I used 3 Auto Meter angle rings with some black ABS plastic to make a custom mount in the dash below the head unit, where the little storage tray was. I will post pictures when it is all done.

I finally got all 3 gauges installed last night (A/F, Boost and Oil Pressure). The oil pressure one was the most difficult because of the tight space under the car. I will post pictures of the install today or tomorrow. Thanks again for the helpful responses.

Nice Job! I assume those are auotmeter gauges? Got a pic of them on at night?

The gauges are Auto Meter Pro Comp Ultra-Lite series. The silver faces on them match the ctock gauges very well. I don't have a picture of them on at night, but I used the red bulb covers, so it matches the stock gauge lights almost exactly.

hELL yEAH Finally someone has done it and gotten some good pics up. the guages look great. If you want to get on the A list with alot of people I would show more details of the how to on the panel for the guages. I know lots of people on here would be very interested in that as it has been discussed before. Love the look though and you did a good job. The angle rings really work great. I have used them on my other cars. Keep up the sweet mods and pics.

The panel is just 1/8" ABS plastic that I measured and cut to fit in the storage pocket opening. I then measured and drilled the 3 holes for the rings with a 2" hole saw drill bit. I had to dremmel a little more off to make the holes a bit larger. Then I used some super glue to attach the angle rings to the plastic.

Getting the cluster into the dash was a little bit more difficult. I had to cut out some of the supporting plastic pieces inside of the dash, and then dremmel the center piece above the climate controls in order for the bottoms of the rings to fit. I also had to dremmel the sides of the center piece a little too. Then I used a couple of back straps to attach the gauges to the center piece. There are 2 screws on either side of the back of the climate controls that I used to attach the gauge cluster to. It was a lot more work than doing a normal pilar gauge pod, but I personally think that this looks a lot better.
