Gas Filter Replacement

Dudes:

The time has come to replace my gas filter. I have no idea where it is. In fact, I've looked under the hood and car and nothing ... Can somebody help me?

Thank you,

J.C.

say that again?
why are you changing your gas filter?
i recall someone saying the same thing and it got a lot of responses and i think the final verdict was that it was a royal pain in the ass and i i think you had to drop the axle. Again, i could be talking out of my ass since i dont recall correctly, but if you do a search you may find that thread again.

Not sure about the 3, but on the Proteges, the gas filter is in the tank on the pump.

i think thats what Goldwing said it was in the tank or something rediculous like that...

on the US/Canada spec, you can't replace it without replacing the fuel pump... on *some* overseas models (depending on which country), the filter is bolted outside of the gas tank but near it

why would it be designed that way? has fuel filter technology come so far that we don't need to change it out but when the pump is changed... ??

there isn't a fuel filter on the 3's, there's like a sock type thing attatched to the fuelpump in the tank you only have to change it when the pump goes bad...

the filter is built INSIDE the fuel pump assembly, so there IS a filter

we can only assume that filter technology has "advanced" far enough to be "life time" or gas in the US is "clean enough" to not need replacement

what I see though is mazda cheaping out on parts (thanks for ford that) in that fuel filter clogging and fuel pump failure doesn't happen until maybe after 100k... well past the warranty which means they don't have to care about

ever notice that practically everything you see under the car is FORD?
hell, you can't even change the fuel pump without dropping the tank on this car!

if you want to call it that...
but you dont have to mess with it till the fuelpump screws up.

i hate that f***in thing nails me hard whenever i work on my baby... you could call it a love hate relationship for sure... i want her to love me but she just keeps hatin... :(

Thank you Guys!

Well after all the discussion I've decided not to replace it!

To answer one of your questions, somebody suggested me to replace the gas filter every 20 K approx. in this way the fuel pump doesn't break down that quickly (I don't know how much time quickly is). In any case, I thought it was a good suggestion and I was going to do it if it were easy. It seems it isn't.

Thank you for all your answer ... Awesome

J.C.

every 20k... damn man i have heard every 60k but that just seems excessive... and with this car it appears thats not an option..

So wait let me get this straight the only filter on our car is the strainer that is on the fuel pump? that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. How cheap can you be to not put a 3 dollar fuel filter in line somewhere?

Honda/Acura have been doing it this way on ALL their cars for years. Nothing new here.
