Gas Cap Holder

wow!

I say wow cause we had this discussion on the rx8 forum and people were just bad mouthing the cap holders. "Why don't you just hold it blah blah blah"

That actually looks like belongs there.

I've never quite understood why people claim there's no place to hold the gas cap? There are two prongs on the door that you wedge just above the gasket on the gas cap and nudge it onto the inside of the door.

I can snap a pic for those who need to see it properly seated.

I remember the days when our gas cap had a hole in it and we didn't even need to remove to fill up (enguard)

This totally works! Thanks for the tip.

Hey Kid, I feel really dumb now, but I inspected the area and I am still not sure how it goes on. Can you post that pic. Thanks.

No problem. I just assumed this was common knowledge as all of my cars have had this. I wanted to make sure those in this thread knew about it before modding, taping, and spending money when they don't have to.

Thank's Kid. (drinks)

I'm pretty anal myself but the cap is plastic. Simply place it down gently so it doesn't hit the car. The pastic won't scratch unless you put force behind it.
The issue isn't scratching the paint, it's having gas come in contact with it(ughdance)

Thanks for the tip, Kid

IMO the cord is there so when you're filling up you don't lose or forget about your gas cap. (True story, I once set a non-connected cap on the roof of my car and drove off... sending it bouncing across Main St. Luckily one of the attendants saw it and had it when I returned!)

Anywho, like I mentioned before, the holder is to keep the inner plastic (which is covered in gasoline) off the painted surface. I've read that gasoline spills can discolor (yellow) the paint, especially on white.

Likewise, if you ever drip gas when removing the nozzle, rinse it off when you get home.

How do you get it to stay? I tried that but the cap just pops off after a few seconds

Great Idea

Has anyone tried it in the great white north??? At minus 25 or 30 C two way tape seems to have a hard time up here.

Cheers
Zoom5Zoom (cheers)

I called Honda today and the part is some $8.00 plus up here in Canada

There's two ledges. Pry the cap into the prongs so the the prongs are between those ledges and then the cap rests against the inside door. If done right, the cap will not fall. Just try it a few times.

Kid, it is so simple, but I would have never figured it out. The pics really helped me there. Thanks !!
