Garrett GT28RS...

Before I purchase the Garrett GT28RS turbocharger, I want to know if I have to run an EMS? Also, if I don't need and EMS, how many pounds of boost can I push it to?

Like said above, you will need it cause this boost business is soo addicting. You got lots of options from piggybacks (MPI (what i run and for bang for buck its best imo), Unichip (plug and play)) and the world of standalones (microtech, aem, haltech).

and that gt28rs Wastegate isnt the same as yours now. I think it's a 9lb wastegate instead of 7. So that alone is turning up your boost. (boom07)

O man i hope you get a good EMS System or forge internals cuz this sounds like zoom zoom boom waiting to happen be careful with it man do it the right way and get yourself a good ems

So if I run the Unichip plug and play ecu, can I boost only at 10 psi with the GT28RS or could I go to about 12 - 14 psi? And if I could boost higher, would I need bigger injectors?

OR, should I go with the MPI tuner? Would I be able to boost higher than 10psi?

One more thing, has anyone on this forum tried running the Cast Intake Manifold from **********.com?

don't even think about turning up the boost on that turbo with no ems....its bigger and will push more air than the stock one at the same boost pressure.

honestly unless you have huge plans for this car such as building up the engine, i wouldn't even buy a bigger turbo, the stock one is capable of making 250whp+ with propper mods and ems.

there is gonna be a new thread from you in a couple months saying how you blew your engine with no ems and bigger turbo.

You guys are talking like I already have the turbo bolted on my car, but I do have big plans for my car. These options are just for right now.

I also want to know if I am able to upgrade the exhaust manifold and keep the stock turbo? If so, which manifold should I choose that would also fit the Garret GT28RS?

I think this turbo is only rated for like 350hp, what do you mean by big plans? It is a nice turbo and very good for driveabilty as it will spool very fast compared to a lot of the others that make the hp this turbo does.

Well I don't know about you, but its going to take a while for me to save up enough to build my motor fully and purchase a bigger turbo kit.

Would anybody happen to know if the stock exhaust manifold is upgradable and is it able to fit the stock turbo and the GT28RS?

Or do you think I should just max out the stock turbo until I have enough to build the motor and purchase a bigger turbo kit?

Either way you go you need EMS to suit u. Obviously you wanna be in the 10psi ++ range so thats what you'll need.

If you get EMS and turn up the boost on the stock turbo which you can do SAFELY, many people have already done it safely as long as they have EMS. Unichip or MPI or standalone.

Once you turn up the boost on the stock turbo you won't worry about the GT28RS you'll be to happy with what you thought the stock turbo couldnt do.

I went with the mpi. User tunable, great function for the price. With the mpi you get extra injectors that fire when you need them to. The unichip i believe can be upgraded to 440 injectors. The unichip has to be tuned by professional unichip tuners.

Either way, I say once you get past the 10 psi marking you will need to address your fuel in some form or fasion.

In reading above I have to agree with "doing it right the first time". I have my kit and m taking no chances. You shouldn't either if you're saying its gonna take a while to save for a built motor. You definately want to have some type of ems. I went with MPI, waiting for it in the mail this week. W/E you decide make sure its the safe road, blown engines are no fun.

The GT28RS will bolt on to your stock manifold with a few mods. The wastegate has to be shimmed back and off center. As for upgrading your exhaust manifold we are the only ones with a bolt in tubular manifold.

If you do go with the GT28RS you can run it on low boost without EM. However you will be pushing up the PSI ladder you will need EM.

i really wouldn't touch boost without an ems or a rebuilt engine, otherwise it's gonna boom on you. some people's engines blew without boosting (me), some people boosted and their engine blew, some people used some sort of fuel management, their engine also blew. an ems will be a lot better, but you could still only raise the boost so high before your s*** goes boom

you can do as u wish akeem just remmeber u gotta pay to play.. so if not done right u will be gettin that built motor sooner than u think
