I am not sure if the timing belt has been changed in my P5 so I am curious to know if there are any other Ohio peeps that would want to get together and make a day of it. Of course I have never done a timing belt change on this particular engine so I hope there will be an "expert" willing to be there. As long as we don't need any "special tools" I would think we could have this meet at my place in Perrysville since I am centrally located between C'bus and C'land. Perhaps a saturday in April or May.

I don't know much about swapping the belt but depending on the day I'm sure I could come out and lend a hand any way I can

I live in Columbus and am also in need of a timing belt change. I am definitely no expert, but I may want to come out to help and see how it's done.

Well, I really thought there would be a little more interest. So far 3 guys who really don't know exactly what they are doing sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Depending when we are talking in April or May I'd come out and help. I have no idea what I'm doing though so unfortunately that doesn't help the situation :)

I have done a couple SOHC belts. That was years ago. I have never even seen a DOHC belt set up of any kind. Makes me nervous to say the least.

Welcome! check put the central ohio thread when you have time. it's not as busy but we have get togethers every so often and one this sunday

i plan on doing one for the p5 for the same reason, I did one on the msp by myself and it still ran

I obviously did mine, but the motor was out, so that made it much easier.

It was STILL a pain in the padded ass!!! Once those cam gears move a FRACTION of a millimetre, you're screwed. Took me over 2 hours to finally get everything lined up. As long as they're locked into place somehow, it should be fine, but the method I used didn't work for s***, so it cost me all that time.

I should be able to help, depending on where we are in the pregnancy. I'll keep watch of this thread for a date.

Cool, now we have a couple of experts potetially on-board.
I wonder if there is some sort of special tool to hold the cams in place? Or a tried and true trick to keep them from moving.

I wouldn't call me an expert

I've seen special tools on tool trucks that are supposed to hold them in place, but of course I couldn't find one when the time came to do mine. lol

I thought I remember reading about Pablo doing his and some method that worked for him.

^ I think I saw a pic of like 5 or 6 sets of vise grips holding his stuff still.

Interference engine? The FS is not. It just has potential to run like poop if the cam isn't lined up perfectly.

Yes, interference engine. Run like poop I can handle. A cylinder head full of bent valves not so much.

You can be a tooth off, and it can run. Ask Kevin about that one...

maybe that's my problem with the msp, although it ran for while before it wouldn't start
