  • engine rebuild/report/reassemble at non-honda dealership 3k + price for parts. i'd say at least $450

so I got a call around 11:30 last night... S2k_Guy start to tell me about his friend who co-owned a s2k with his brother... well turns out the brother decided to **** with/race someone.. he was at 9k in 3rd gear and shifted... well it turns out that he went into 2nd instand of 4th... and all he saw was smoke... it turns out he blow up the number 1 cylinder..... which i was suprised by. i always heard s*** about how s2k trannys are weak, i was suprised that the tranny didn't blow up and sockets starts to fly...

(uhm) :wtf:

isn't there suppose to be a rev limiter??? how about a fuel cut??? gear lock out??? does it sound like a malfunction to anyone??? i don't know all i know is he has 3 options...
1. engine swap 7k (which i thought was cheap)
2. engine rebuild/report/reassemble at honda dealership 6k
3. engine rebuild/report/reassemble at non-honda dealership 3k + price for parts.

the car currently has 20k on it and s2k_guy's friend told his brother that as soon as the brother gets the car working, he is putting it on autotader. no questions asked.

given that, what would u do??? My vote is engine swap for 7k...

if you shift to 2nd at 80-90mph the fuel cut off will not help whatsoever in any car (most road cars rev limiter is a fuel cut off...only those cars with tuning for racing such as drag racers to create a rev limiter for certain gears)...he overreved the engine due to amatuer shifting and now has to buy a new engine

the s2k does not have a weak tranny...the only problems i've read about and discussed with my autox and road racing s2k friends are when inexperienced drivers hurt the tranny from poor shifting (speed shifting without clutch action) or the first couple vortech kits where comptech needed to add a brace to the tranny due to 100 extra whp and wtq

If he doesn't want to spend that kind of money he will find a K series from a RSX and build off that. It definetley has a different power band but it's got as much potential as the F series if not more.

I would ask this question at Honda Tech or Twin-Cam.net More Honda knowledge over there than anywhere else.

how the hell do you shift into 2nd instead of 4th.... just go STRAIGHT down, not left !@##$@^

1. A rev limiter won't do s*** when the inertia of the car is pushing the engine to F1 engine speeds.
2. A fuel cut won't do s*** when the inertia of the car is pushing the engine to F1 engine speeds.
3. A gear lock out from 3rd gear to 2nd gear? I suppose you never downshift? There's a gear lock out from 5th/6th gear to reverse and that's it. During any other shift if the lever isn't going into gear it is because the synchros are trying to tell you you should rev-match better.
4. The only malfunction occured between the steering wheel and the driver's seat.

mine has a lockout if i'm at high rpm i can't really downshift unless i'm ******* jamming it in there.. but it would grind...

That's not a lockout, that's the synchros telling you to stop.

only problem is that the K series was built for a transaxle and mounted transversely and the F20 is mounted longitudinallyj. don't forget the ECUs are probably way different

ya but u know what i mean it prevents you from going into gear, shouldn't the s2k do the same??

I'm sure the same thing would happen. The reason you can't get it in gear is because the RPM's aren't matched. When you downshift you're supposed to rev match, and then the shifter glides in. If you're at redline, then you aren't going to be able to rev match, so it won't wanna go. If you're racing and shifting as fast as possible, then you're just gonna slam it in. There's a video of a guy in an rsx doing the same thing, ended in a blown engine. Idiots need to learn to shift.
