Fuel Milage Gauge

Has anyone got any info on how to rig up a fuel milage gauge. I had a Mazda 3 sedan courtesy car today and noticed the little fuel millage readout in the left hand side of the radio display, it showed how many liters per 100km's the car should be doing at various rpm's and speeds. In this day and age of rising fuel costs I thought this would be a handy little thing to have to monitor my driving habits.

So if anyone has any info on where this thing gets it's info from or if there is an aftermarket one out there, I would appreciate it.

I didn't know the 3 had that. Our 91 Plymouth Voyager had that in its overhead computer my dad loved it I mean really was crazy about it especially on trips when he saw it come down to like 8-9 he would be thrilled. Definitely it is very handy. I know the old 5 series beemers had a needle in the cluster that would do the same. I would be really interested in doing this too. I think you can buy an electronic gauge that will give you the reading. I remember seeing something like this.
