Fuel Gauge

Ok, went to the gas station a few days ago after seeing the yellow fuel light come on. As I was pumping the nozzle tried to cut off a couple of times so I figured it wasn't in all the way and kept going... till gas gushed out!
So I get in the car and the gauge only went up to 1/2 tank. So what's wrong here? Is it the gauge or in the tank? Is this easy to fix (not too handy here) or should I take it to the garage? I do have an extended warranty that I picked up with the car.

sometimes i get were the pump will keep shutting off and ill only have like half a tank or soemthing, it never came out on me though. i think its just the gas station or the pump you use cuz it happened twice at the same gas station for me and since i havent been back it hasent happened. try a different station

naah, I think it's the gauge in this case, or float (whatever thats called in the tank). I know what you're talking about though since I had that with my Jeep before. thanks

dam thats not good, but check through the back seat and maybe use a voltmeter to test the float, there should be a def. voltage change as u lower and raise the float

had a similar problem with an 02 tacoma.turns out the guy was trying to get the pump to an even dollar amount after the pump clicked off, and saturated the charcoal canister. When it becam saturated with gas, i didnt let the gas tank vent out and kept stoping the pump.pull the small vent hose off the charcoal canister lcrated under the driver rear of the car, and smell the canister.if it has a very strong gas smell toull probally need a new one.if it doesent smell heavily like gas then its ok.just something to check
