fuel-cut virginity lost

ok, so i've finally hit the dreaded fuel-cut. lemme tell ya, if you haven't experienced it, the hesitation is NOTHING compared to this. the cold weather mixed with my mods makes me spike 10 psi and my stock ECU says "no-no-no". so long story short, how do i prevent this? i know there are people out there with MBC's running 10+psi; how do they avoid it? is a FCD necessary for our cars to run more than X amount of boost? or is it just the fact that the cold air and higher boost levels are f-ing with my ECU? i'm planning on taking off the cold-air part of my Injen for winter, but haven't gotten around to it. i'm thinking maybe that will help, but if it doesn't... i don't know what i'll do without being able to beat on my car until spring time!

a few things are avail to help eliminate this, first off i see whats on your car.. i say with those mods you need some sort of fuel management.. whether it be standalone or piggyback.. just get something.. when you do this.. say bye bye fuel cut.. i myself actually hit it a couple days ago.. cold weather hit.. i hit 15 psi boost.. and wham.. there it was.. haha..

i honestly would move it above flywheel. i am still running a stock one with no issues!! its better to know your motor is running safe a/f levels then to lose 5 lbs of weight and pick up a couple more whp from the flywheel.. yes the split second would be fine.. i had one on my setup before i got my unichip.

so do you think the SS AFC would take care of it? it's next on my list after i get a flywheel.

i have the splitsecond and its great, the stock tune that comes with i even noticed a huge difference and you will have no fuel cut, i still get once in awhile since it has be cold but it hits it once and then stops, but save a few more hundred and make sure get the new SS AFC that lets you control timing. If you get that one you will be set for a very very long time.

would totally agree with you there!

here's the thing. i'm doing my clutch here soon (already have it) and i figure i might as well do the flywheel while i have it open. i'm leaving for basic on the 16th so the car won't get driven much. as far as the FTC vs the AFC is concerned, i'm not real confident that i know what i'm doing with changing the timing, so i think i'm going to stay away from that. but who knows, maybe i'll do all kinds of research and get the FTC after all.

well we can both learn lol, i blew my motor last night and im going to need to get some timing control soon cause im forging and cranking up the boost!!!

thats what this forum is for.. question and answers. get the timing controller with it.. you will regret it later if you dont..

+1

im pissed that they came out with literelly 2 months after i bought mine. i mean at first you dont have to touch it but when you build the motor the only way you will be able to get the full potential of the motor is to be able to control the timing. Once i have my motor in i think i will be limited to about maybe 13psi till i can control the timing.

How about dropping the boost a little for winter and saving money for a stand alone or piggyback later on?
The SS AFC was on my top priority list, peace of mind with a well managed engine!

I still haven't touched the boost levels of my car but it's gone a long since I bought it stock!

it's a stock tune so it runs rich already and the boost is just creeping with my mods. it hold steady at about 8-9 in the cold weather. i did end up taking off the end of my Injen and it's helped a LOT. so now i can save the money for the flywheel and get all that done at once, my clutch is slipping badly!

HondaNoMore, off the subject but how do you like the TL FMIC? I'm debating about getting one. I have a SMIC that does the job for my mods but ppl are getting incredible gains from it. I understand it's a GREAT unit but I don't understand how it gains power?

I love my intercooler. Everything about it, it looks great, it performs great, fitament was good. I recommend it to everyone. The short routing of the piping and isolating the intercooler from the engine bay makes the charge air cooler and gives you more power.

when you guys experienced the fuel cut, did your car feel like someone completely disconnected the 02sensor then plugged it right back in. Thats how mine feels. I also after raplacing the blown t25 turbo with a t28 still have problems with the car smoking, is this do to not having the car tuned. I have the split second unit but need to install with aem wideband. Anyone have any Idea?

not to thread jack or seem too noobish *well i am, but be gentle* but what does the fuel cut feel like when your driving? is it violent?

I would venture to say that getting the SS AFC will be the best idea in the world. Not to mention that you can just resurface the flywheel and save you a few 100 bones. In theory you have no clue how rich you are running and this can be causing damage to your motor. Many how blown motors on the stock ecu due to the horrible tunes. As soon as I got the ss afc it was like awaking the beast. Prior to the afc i got like 26mpgs. After, i can get 33 easy. Just something to think about. You have so much more potential with the afc then you do with the flywheel. Tuning is key when you own a tuner.
