Here is a thread showing that Honda part which is an adhesive cap holder, would work for any vehicle:

UPDATE
I cut my plastic tether strap off my cap and the Honda fuel cap holder I installed works a lot better with just the cap. Btw, who cares if it's not a Ferrari. I like to keep my vehicles very nice, clean and if possible scratch less.

good idea by the OP, and to the 2nd idea of using the stock feature, THANK YOU! i had no idea i could do that.

currently i've just been hanging the cap over the cap itself, when it hangs straight down it pulls the cap closed and it against my hand, irritating. unfortunately its too late for my vehicle. the previous owner obviously just undid it and dropped it constantly as you can see the scratches. i could probably buff them out but the rest of the paint needs TLC too, and the paint is the last thing i was worried about when i bought this one.
