Fuel Adjustment Tricks

Without spending lots of money...What are some ways to lean out the MSP? I know I can just tune my Unichip (I dont have the 440's installed yet, so it's still running stock unichip maps), but the local shop wants $550 to tune it and I don't have the cash for that right now. I put the MAF sensor on the charge side of the intake...That supposedly creates some blow by as well as allows you to run a bov. Another idea was to remove the honeycomb in the MAF sensor to allow more blow-by of unsensored air. Does anyone know any other ways to reduce fuel with little tricks like this?

i think your ECU will notice that you leaned it out and just add more fuel..the honeycomb thing can't possibly work its just to protect the sensor, not sure about MAF location other than letting you run a VTA BOV but i wouldn't think so.. wow its cheaper to buy a whole new piggyback system than to get the Unichip tuned once?? insanity

Yea....Retarded (Local Shops Raping People). Im pretty sure the honeycomb makes the air flow more linear and allows the sensor to read the air more accurately as well a safety implement. I know the car will try to make up the difference, but thats what the tricks are meant to do...Fool the computer.

joep had a fuel pressure reducer fpr available back in the day. I tried giving at least 2 away on here I think they ended up being thrown out. If you post up a wtb someone may still have one.

just save your money for a tune

'tricks' are never reliable, why would you even want to risk problems with half-ass s***?

There were people who used them effectively. You gotta remember some of us og's were around before there were piggybacks. It was a joep fpr or stand alone and that was it.

honeycomb removal = myth
hit up JDMsam, he may be able to tune for you for less money. I've heard of people sending him there unichip and him tuning and sending it back. He also happens to be the choice unichip tuner on these boards. so even if he costs you the same, your getting the BEST tune possible.

If I could go to JDMsams and get a dyno tune, then he WOULD be the best. No car runs exactly the same. The best tune would come from a dyno tune and he is not local. Plus...removing the honeycomb does change efficiency...Read up on it. Its not a major change, but it is a change. Removing the honeycomb is a free trick....Im not looking to waste money. Does anyone have any real ideas other than just making negative comments?

being 'og' doesn't make it any better of an idea, sorry

my idea's pretty legit, sir. gotta pay to play. i really hope you don't think a good tune is 'wasting money.' maybe you meant 'spending money?' in that case.. lol.

buy those portable coffe cups
fill with ice
zip tie it inside the engine bay
insert the temp sensor in the the cup
close the lid

it'll pull so hard

Your right. Not!
There were a lot of people that used this with great success. Again it was a patch but it may help the op with the problem he is having. If you are monitoring with a wb than it shouldn't matter if it leans it out too much take it off. Mine is a $25 investment not a $500 dollar send my ecu out and hope the map is good for my car/mods/location. And then what if you get your unichip back and it's still not right then it a waste.

Nice...Well, some people on this thread went way out there. I will be getting a tune in 8 months or so. A tune is a great investment for performance and fuel economy...

Here is an extremely ridiculous scenario. It would probably run extremely lean if I ran the car without the MAF installed on the pipes (as if i replaced it with a pipe and left it connected to the harness, but not to the pipes) No air would move past the MAF therefore the computer thinks it needs less gas to run. Now, this is retarded and no-one should ever try that. But it's the concept of tricking the computer.

I'm just looking for some ideas on other things you can do. By the way, You would be better sticking the coolant temp sensor in the bag of ice to get performance gains. In our situations (MSP owners) , it would probably make it extremely way too rich and not see any performance gain.

Viralphrame...Have you ever owned anything that wasn't an import?...Muscle car guys know these little tricks.

used to own an 88 mustang lx 5.0; was a fun car, the kid i sold it to got t-boned by a school bus the very next day

i'd just as soon use proven, reliable solutions on that car as i would on my MSP. i value the cars i put my money into and wouldn't risk workarounds or 'tricks' for any of them

thanks in advance for not assuming anything else about me

Well then you know that the Unichip is just a trick for the computer then? Any Piggyback or AFR is essentially a trick. Your not modifying the oem computer, your increasing or decreasing values by a factor to modify fuel curves. Its exactly the same. A piggy-back or afr is just more controlled.
