Frustrating Stalling Issue

2003 Protege5
I've been working on a stalling issue with our 2003 Mazda Protege5.

The sequence of events to get it to stall are as follows:
1. Drive for 10-15 minutes
2. Accelerate hard (like you are merging onto the freeway from standstill - we have metered on ramps here).
3. Drive 2-3 miles at highway speed

At the 2-3 mile mark the car has stalled numerous times. Its done it a couple of times off the freeway but always after the hard acceleration.
After waiting 5 minutes or so with the car off it will start and drive ok again (it accelerates fine, sounds normal, etc). Waiting on the shoulder of the highway for five minutes every couple of days is getting old. :)

I've taken it to two mechanics.
First one had little more to offer other than change the spark plugs (did that on my own - no change).
The second mechanic tested out the electrical, fuel and exhaust systems and didn't find anything amiss.

The check engine light never comes on and there aren't any codes to store.

Obviously something is wrong otherwise it wouldn't be stalling.

Any suggestions on things to check?

check your alternator and battery connections for corrosion, check to make sure your ecm is not cutting out, check the coils. how does it stall? like a quick just off or does it sputter and die? if its quick and just goes with no warning then i would suspect something electrical if it sputters out something ignition or fuel related would be a better guess. check to be sure your fuel pressure regulator is functioning properly, check your exhaust for a plugged cat. check your fuel pump for proper pressure while giving it gas, check your throttle body for blockage or loose or missing parts, check your air intake boot for rips and tears (common on this car) check your mass air flow sensor the list goes on and on
