Front Wheel Bearing Help (Long Island)

Well, I got 80% of the way on my own... I wanted to just bring the knuckle to a local shop, but I can't get past the friggin ball joint for the life of me!!! Everything else went smooth as can be, but that ball joint... grrr.... Anyone have any suggestions - OR - live local and willing to lend a hand? I can throw ya a few bucks or beer or whatever... I can't take the wurring from my front end anymore! (sad2)

I just went through the exact same thing this morning. I put a 17mm wrench on the black part(tie rod end/ ball joint) and some vice grips on the gold nut. and twisted as hard as i could in opposite directions until they came loose. Busted my knuckles though when it broke loose so be careful. After that i just twisted the knuckle and black part(tie rod end/balljoint) until it was off the tie rod. Took it to a shop and in about 15 min a new bearing an hub was pressed in. tis easier putting everything back together hehe.

we replaced the drivers front wheel bearing a couple months ago but I still hear the wurring sound when I drive. I am wondering if the bearing was pressed into the hub correctly.

well, after another unsuccessful go at it (i broke my breaker bar and my favorite ratchet) i decided to bring the car to a local shop tomorrow morning! i've had the car for nearly 6 years (120k miles) and never have had to leave it anywhere to be worked on! needless to say i'm expecting to get ripped off, but i need to get this done asap! from reading all the posts on here i'm thinking $100 each side is kinda-sorta fair. i'm supplying the parts (bearings, seals and new axle nuts). we'll see what happens... wheel bearings seems to be a popular topic on here, so i'll post the results when the job is complete!

btw: after years of bent alloy rims, bubbles in my tires, and going through 3 or 4 sets of tires, i decided to pick up a set of steel rims from the local junkyard ($25 each). they're 14" from a '95 eclipse. once the bearings are replaced i'll throw some 185/65/14 or 185/70/14 on there and attack the crappy roads of new york with confidence for a change!

just got back from the shop... took them almost 3 hours to complete the job, but it's done and rolling smooth for the first time in months! total cost for labor was $260, not too bad... still disappointed i couldn't do it myself, but life goes on...
