Front grill area blocked off my mazda....

SO..Even in your statement..why would you want to take any airflow away from your IC at all..thats like asking for a performance decrease.

And it may be even bigger than you could imagine.

But enjoy your mod..I see it makes you happy to think you found the holy grail.

I don't want to argue further, people can look at the pics and judge for themselves. This is in no way some huge increase/decrease situation, it is just an exploration of the components of a new car, theory crafting, etc - I hope everyone walks away from the thread with more more knowledge than they entered, I know I have learned some about airflow as well during the debate(or at least applied more knowledge)......so anyways u know damn well I never thought this was some amazing new mod......

cool but i dont see how its going to help the performance of your car in any way but it is something to keep in mind if i want to make a box for my SRI. i agree it is taking potential away from the coolling system i dont think its taking away from the intercooling system.

First off, a disclaimer: I know very little about the scan hardware available for the MS3 and what it can measure.

That said, what we really need is someone who can measure intake temp and IC temp with and without that plug installed. That would tell us definitively whether or not it is a useful, or even harmful, mod.

My guess is that it will have a greater impact in intake temps than IC temps, assuming you have an SRI of some sort.

I do not understand the chip you seem to have on your shoulder.

The impact on TMIC air flow would be inconsequential if the flow were used to pressurize a filter box, even the stock box. I was looking at this yesterday and think it could be a really good idea.

If you must poo poo someone's bad TMIC idea, take a look at the how-to butcher a TMIC shroud thread.

I removed that a long time ago...my charge temp didn't change at all via scan gauge so that means the tmic is still getting the amount of air flow that it was before :)

Wow this is a really nice find!! Thanks for posting this. I have little doubt this will help out the SRI. Hell, with some free time someone could probably fabricate a nice air duct/or box right to the SRI. I will take a closer look at mine but from the pics it doesn't look like it will affect the intercooler airflow at all.

I used to be a commercial alarm tech and on the many problems I was sent out on for backup battery systems the only sealed batteries that had recurring problems with premature failure were do to high heat levels in equipment closets that weren't cooled or ventilated . Overheating usually leads to decomposition of the plastics used to make the batteries and then cracking . Then its no longer a sealed battery .
