your 323 overseas. came in a 4wd design , it also came in two trims GTX and GTR ... the GTX came with a dohc 1.8 motor which is designated as a BP (this you will hear people refer to ) this engine put out 180 hp and the GTR which came with beafier internals came with 220hp .. and yes the 4wd ...
Anyway in the US your car gets a B6 the 1.6L sohc ... A good motor for the economical car but way underpowered. If your 323 is going to be 5 speed. then you can swap out the motor from a 90-94 Protege Lx ... the dohc motor BP.
You would basically want to get your hands on the motor and the tranny , the axles, wire harness cpu, and anything else you can get your grubby hands on out the donor car.
You can find these motors on
www.car-part.com for about maybe 500 or so ... even less if you feal like rebuilding it.. If you can try and make sure you can get the disty on the engine ... that should make life a bit easier.
As for suspension . You can use the factory, which you don't want to ... but then you have the tokico shocks that the ford zx2 has .. maybe Wil can throw the link out. I ithink you can find them on the Ford oem racing website. check yahoo.. see if you see it ..
There are a slew of springs. what works on the protege 91-94 works on the 323... change the rear upper mounts while you are at it ...
upper strut bars you can get them on ebay if you want or actually you can check out mazdaspeedwest. on protegeclub, once we get the club up and running , he has some stuff in production ...
ahh I could type all day ,,, btw I have a 91 323 hehehe...
my aim is protegeonurass.. i will be on later tonight after 10
