Hi all. i am new to the whole mazda scene. i will be purchasing a 90 323 1.6i in a couple of weeks and i wasnt sure what chassis or class this year was considered. i also wanted some feedback as far as the suspension and such. at this point , i will probably not be touching the engine because of my poor luck with my b12. anyway, i would definetly like to tighten up the suspenion and possibly lower it an inch or 2. i already have 16s from my b12(sentra) so wheels are covered. what strutbar could i use?

I think that you can use most if not all of the same suspention parts from a 90-94 protege. So yes you are posting in the right spot. If i am correct, You will also be able to use all of the suspention parts from a 91-present ford escort/ZX2. The escort and protege in the years share the same chassie.

hmm.... i have a 91 mazda 323 that i bought last 10/02 for $800 stock! I sold my 15.01 sec 1/4 92 civic cx hatch for this. Rite now i have a bp 1.8 liter protege engine form 91-94 dohc 16v. pace setter headers, k n n intake filter, stock tranny, lots of goodies i dont know my time yet but i can smoke a SXT dodge 03 stratus, type sh prelude, 99 civic si, gsr integra, stock tirm. im pushing 125 hp at the flywheel.

well here it is. wut do u guys think?

I personally like the black bumpers. It adds a nice contrast to the car (including the spoiler).

Looks good, man.

no im not planning painting the bumpers in actually buying the bumper at the junkyard the one without the scrathes on it and i'll keep it balck too.....thx!

your 323 overseas. came in a 4wd design , it also came in two trims GTX and GTR ... the GTX came with a dohc 1.8 motor which is designated as a BP (this you will hear people refer to ) this engine put out 180 hp and the GTR which came with beafier internals came with 220hp .. and yes the 4wd ...
Anyway in the US your car gets a B6 the 1.6L sohc ... A good motor for the economical car but way underpowered. If your 323 is going to be 5 speed. then you can swap out the motor from a 90-94 Protege Lx ... the dohc motor BP.

You would basically want to get your hands on the motor and the tranny , the axles, wire harness cpu, and anything else you can get your grubby hands on out the donor car.

You can find these motors on www.car-part.com for about maybe 500 or so ... even less if you feal like rebuilding it.. If you can try and make sure you can get the disty on the engine ... that should make life a bit easier.

As for suspension . You can use the factory, which you don't want to ... but then you have the tokico shocks that the ford zx2 has .. maybe Wil can throw the link out. I ithink you can find them on the Ford oem racing website. check yahoo.. see if you see it ..
There are a slew of springs. what works on the protege 91-94 works on the 323... change the rear upper mounts while you are at it ...
upper strut bars you can get them on ebay if you want or actually you can check out mazdaspeedwest. on protegeclub, once we get the club up and running , he has some stuff in production ...

ahh I could type all day ,,, btw I have a 91 323 hehehe...
my aim is protegeonurass.. i will be on later tonight after 10
