frankenstein exhaust opinions

ill be trying to get my exhaust soon , i have a shop that believes they can fab me a custom s pipe either 2.5 with divorced wastegate or 3 with out for aprox 300$$ out of SS. anyone got an opinion on what they think would be better ?and why.? also if the stock flange location becomes an issue, i may also have a mid pipe with high flow cat made . from there any cat back would work.
does any one know if a choke in an exhaust system is made , would it be better to choke it at the beginning ( 2.5 down pipe + 3" to back). or the end ( 3" down pipe + 2.5 back) ?

it would prolly be better not to go to a smaller piping size. either stay the same size throughout or go bigger. a 2.5" dp should be plenty for the t25. $300 is a good price too....all mandrel bends right? the last quote i got for a custom 2.5" dp + midpipe + hi-flow cat full ss was $400-$450.

yea all mandrel .but with the high flow cat , would add about 100$
the reason i asked about the size change, i was looking at some allready exsisting exhausts that i could use , like corksport 2.5 with a 3 "dp , or 2.5 dp with billet 3" dp back system .
any opinions on the divorced wastegate ? i know its supposed to reduce chance of boost creep does it do any thing else?

Get the divorced wastegate...that's the whole poing of having a replacement spipe made in my opinion. It will reduce the turbilance that occures once the wastegate opens at full boost. Ever notice that the car chokes a little as soon as you hit full boost?

thanks , yea i am kind of leaning toward 2.5 dp with divorced wg , with corksport 2.5
that should be good for 250 whp anyone else?

what about mufflers any one got any fav mufflers that would work well with a custom set up . i believe i can have 2.5 spipe with divorced wastegate 2.5 mid pipe with cut out solinoid befor a highflow cat and 2.5 catback with choice of muffler for under a $G$
the cut out would be nice for track/dyno/and the honda with the plywood wing down the street.

I got the 5zigen too. I just don't have it on yet. I'm prob. going with the E/Speed's 3" s-pipe back exhuast soon and putting the muffler on when i get it. I'll be sure to put sound clips up.

What shop are you getting to fab this stuff up? If yours turns out nice I might call them up to get myself an s-pipe. Thanks.

if you're going to have smaller piping, do it closer to the turbo. hot gas doesn't need the room to travel quickly. as it cools, it needs more room to flow at the same rate.

this is what road race engineering has to say about its dsm downpipe

Our DPs have a 2 1/2" stainless steel first bend with a 2 1/2" stainless steel flex section. They then expand to 3" right after the flex section right under the oil pan area. Why start out at 2 1/2"? If you are running on the stock O2 sensor housing, even ported it is 2 1/2" inside diameter. When the exhaust gasses are hot, they flow better, 2 1/2" is plenty for the first 12". As the gasses cool , bigger helps. By going to 3" after the flex section, we allow this expansion and also allow for better clearance at the front where room is tight. From there they are a full 3" back to the Apex 3" flange with 14 gauge aluminized steel piping. We had some Apexi flanges laser cut out of thick 1/2" steel for a good seal and fit.

b&tmotorsport.com near newington/springfield . i wouldnt quote me on any pricing yet , my work is just a few doors down . there a small operation but seem like really cool guys that like to make cars go fast. i did mention to them in conversation that if they can make a nice s pipe for a good price i can drum up some buisness for them. if and when it comes threw ill be sure to post some pics

what do people think about combining the s pipe with mid pipe into one pipe? with or with out a high flow cat . i think it might be a little cheaper to have fabed up essentially making it a 2 piece system . it could have a small flex section or is just to much stress? im thinking 2.5 S/J pipe in one + highflowcat to stock cat back flange.

Son of a b****, I am having my exhaust done next week I already ordered the the flange with 3 in ID and it is not split is all one opening, is this going to effect any thing? Oh going 3 inch all the way back with HI-flo cat. oh I have attachment the one on the left is what I am talking about,(boom07)

metalspeed - there will be some sacrifice in performance since introducing the wastegate flow into the exhaust flow stream right away will cause unwanted turbulence leading to less efficiency. how much less efficient? i don't have a clue.

nova - not sure on that one....you'll definitely need some kind of flex point though. the guy i went to told me they would use a spring flange like in the stock setup rather than a flexpipe section. not sure how he was planning to build mine. if you send me $400, i'll go have it made right away and let you know ;)

Just got off the phone with my fab guy and he said their will be a slight difference but nothing noticeable. I don't know what do, yall think should I call and cancel the order and order another one or should I just say screw it and take the minimal loss?(boom07)
