forge bov's for ms3/ ms6/ cx-7

i mentioned this in another thread, but i wanted to get the word out better.
i was not fully pleased with my greddy type s bov, the adjustability was poor. by the time i got it tight enough to seal how i liked, the piston had very little travel, and did not sound good. so i looked for a new valve.... it had to be a recirc style and be adjustable. i found forge and gave them a call. i wanted their direct bolt on valve for the ms3...ms6...and cx-7 (there are no adapter plates to worry about additional leaks) the valves are a ajustable by actually changing the internal spring (very easy). and if you cant decide between 2 springs, you can add shims to them too !!

anyways, i got the valve i wanted and i was asked to test out their new atmospheric valve (vta). at first i didnt want to because i am very anti-vta on this car. well i did it anyway. i was asked to try it out with different spring combos (the vta valve uses 2 springs) and let them know what worked for me and what didnt.
the vta valve is a dual piston design... one to vent the air out.... and one to seal shut at idle to preven surging and stalling. i drove with the vta valve for a week now and........................i hate to say it but .............. its freakin great !!
once i got the spring right (if you order you will not need to worry, it will be sent to you with my recomended set-up) it drove fine ! i did not have any drivability issues what so ever. not even a backfire between shifts, it was really impressive.
it had a nice fluttery whoosh sound to it...nice. it also comes with a nice billet plug and clamp to seal up your now unused recirc hose.

the recirc valve works great as well, and sounds even better when used with a cai.
this model can be purchased in a polished finish or black (the vta model only comes in polished ) this valve lets out a loud whoosh followed by a whistle. it sounds kinda like a HKS valve when it is ran vta.
both valves showed a noticable improvement in spool up time between gear changes. i actually chirped 4th gear for the first time.

the best part is the price !!! you can get the recirc valve for only $170
pricing is not set for the vta valve but i am told it will be the same or slightly more (no more than $200) pretty good huh ??

both forge valves are piston operated which means ......reliable.
greddy valves use a rubber diaphram which is know to rip and cause problems.
the hks is is also famous for having problems with its complex internals.
sometimes the straight forward approach is best.... piston up....piston down..... its fool proof !!

i will post pics of both valves later for you guys.....i know you want to see them.

i suggest the recirc valve for those with a cai.
those without a cai who want the bov sound should opt for the atmospheric version. keep in mind only the recirc version is on the web site now.

if you want the vta valve it will be out soon.

sounds nice, the only thing that others have over this one is that others can be run in either VTA or recirc. Could you make some videos of each so we can hear how they sound maybe?

my hks is fine....running recirc wont give me a problem and adjsutable leak dont they? isnt that y they discontinued hks adjustables.... its jsut a guess i dont know anything about hks's reason. correct me if im wrong

do it man..i had mine runnin vta for a few weeks till i got my cai..it sounds nice and i have so much fun blastin people in the face with the valve lol...u will notice the stumbles at low rpm shifts. ( 2k ) but it should be fine.. DO IT(boom01)

Boost - can you explain just what makes one bypass valve better than another? Also, can you explain what the difference is when you change the spring? Please do not include anything about how it sounds as that is irrelevent to performance. Inquiring minds want to know.

yeah but I have a cai you know that will it be a bad thing???
im not sure.,..i didnt have cai when i was vta..it could make a bigger difference since u will be getting more air..but im sure u can run it vta for a day or two

well no one valve is perfect for all cars. take the HKS for example
you get a generic one size fits all setting that is "universal"
does it work ......sure
is it working at the optimum level for your car.....NO !
the adjustable spring allow the valve to hold more oe less boost, vent out more or less air, and react faster or slower.
with the use of the forge valves i was able to get much improved spool up between gear changes with the proper spring set up. and piston type valves are know to be hassle free, it is a straifgt forward design, no crazy bells and whistles inside to get damaged (greddy HKS).

sorry about the quality but here are some pics and a short vid i took on my cell phone.

and a vid with the vta valve and all windows up.

ewww. really bad sound quality. :) sounds like you are blowing on a straw off camera. (evil)

what does being adjsutable change ? air flow?
you can adjust blow off sensitivity... max boost holding ability... and boost held after vent, this help improve spool up between shifts.

the sound does suck sorry ..... the pics and vid was done with my cell phone !!

Tru-boost,
What was your spring set up in the recirc valve? I installed mine today and it came with three springs and 2 shims. The blue spring was installed with no shims.
The valve didn't come with any paperwork.

that is the way i recomend it....
blue spring NO SHIMS.
the yellow spring is softer, and the red is stiffer....too stiff. i got compressor surge with the red. play around with it if you want... but the way you got it is the way it worked best for me.

I have some questions for anyone with a forge bypass valve on their ms3..
1.compared to the hks and greddy bov how is the sound(loudness)
2. not really concerned about it but does this product void warranties.
3. would having the forge recirc. valve be ok for a month tops without a CAI?
4.last but not least... anyone encounter preformance loss and or damage with this product...

Thanks for any answers....
my car is completely stock except i removed 2 of the 3 exhaust restrictors..

Thanks for your time and effort in helping get a better BOV going for these cars(thumb) Im not to hip on HKS's latest crap.

Well thanks to Ken, my Forged arrived today from the GB. Went out, installed the smoked LED side markers that came in today as well.. I dont know, i swear the things sounds like im ringing a bell between shifts. I get the hiss but an audible clang sound as well. Anyone else? I noticed theres only the single round o-ring. I dont see any gaskets.
