i mentioned this in another thread, but i wanted to get the word out better.
i was not fully pleased with my greddy type s bov, the adjustability was poor. by the time i got it tight enough to seal how i liked, the piston had very little travel, and did not sound good. so i looked for a new valve.... it had to be a recirc style and be adjustable. i found forge and gave them a call. i wanted their direct bolt on valve for the ms3...ms6...and cx-7 (there are no adapter plates to worry about additional leaks) the valves are a ajustable by actually changing the internal spring (very easy). and if you cant decide between 2 springs, you can add shims to them too !!
anyways, i got the valve i wanted and i was asked to test out their new atmospheric valve (vta). at first i didnt want to because i am very anti-vta on this car. well i did it anyway. i was asked to try it out with different spring combos (the vta valve uses 2 springs) and let them know what worked for me and what didnt.
the vta valve is a dual piston design... one to vent the air out.... and one to seal shut at idle to preven surging and stalling. i drove with the vta valve for a week now and........................i hate to say it but .............. its freakin great !!
once i got the spring right (if you order you will not need to worry, it will be sent to you with my recomended set-up) it drove fine ! i did not have any drivability issues what so ever. not even a backfire between shifts, it was really impressive.
it had a nice fluttery whoosh sound to it...nice. it also comes with a nice billet plug and clamp to seal up your now unused recirc hose.
the recirc valve works great as well, and sounds even better when used with a cai.
this model can be purchased in a polished finish or black (the vta model only comes in polished ) this valve lets out a loud whoosh followed by a whistle. it sounds kinda like a HKS valve when it is ran vta.
both valves showed a noticable improvement in spool up time between gear changes. i actually chirped 4th gear for the first time.
the best part is the price !!! you can get the recirc valve for only $170
pricing is not set for the vta valve but i am told it will be the same or slightly more (no more than $200) pretty good huh ??
both forge valves are piston operated which means ......reliable.
greddy valves use a rubber diaphram which is know to rip and cause problems.
the hks is is also famous for having problems with its complex internals.
sometimes the straight forward approach is best.... piston up....piston down..... its fool proof !!
i will post pics of both valves later for you guys.....i know you want to see them.
i suggest the recirc valve for those with a cai.
those without a cai who want the bov sound should opt for the atmospheric version. keep in mind only the recirc version is on the web site now.
