Ford Edge -- Mazda CX-9 Brothers !

I guess you want to discuss the similarities between the CX-9 and the Ford Edge?? OK, I'm waiting for the CX-9 to be available for sale. I'm ready to pounce on a loaded GT! The "9" looks so good on paper, I hope a test drive will seal the deal. I've driven the Edge and wasn't overly impressed. The engine is nice, but I don't believe they share the same tranny. The Edge didn't have a manually shiftable mode. The Edge looked "boxy" to me and the interior seemed and felt pretty "hard" as opposed the the sleek, softer stying of the CX-9. I don't think they share many parts other than the engine. After Ford's recent huge losses posted, they certainly need some new life to become profitable again. I hope the Edge and Fusion get them going again.

I'm a little nervous about considering a first year model, but the CX-7 seems to be going over pretty well and the CX-9 is similar in many respects. We'd pop for a "7" right now, but we'd rather have the V-6 as opposed to the premium fueled Turbo-4. Also want the memory seats and the power liftgate. Mazda will have had the CX-7 intro-time to work out alot of the potential bugs on the CX-9. I can't wait to get behind the wheel! We originally considered a Mitsubishi Outlander as it looked so good on paper. We test drove one and were quite disappointed. Too much hard plastic on the interior. It looked and felt "cheap". Pretty good "bang for the buck" and the HD NAV system was nice, but we didn't really care for it overall that much. What are your thoughts? Regards, Ace

Thanks for the info and the reply to the thread any similarility sheet metal wise the doors and windows look similiar no dealers around here have a edge to look. I'll have to hit the auto show. I have a Cx-7 love it, but might want a cx-9 as our other car.

I found a edge (below) for sale and the first digit of the vin is "2" so not mazda built thats very nice. The design is almost a complete copy of the Cx's
Ford cannot come up with anything themselves man they need a new design teams.

There are really are no similarites between these vehicles. Yes they are both based on the Mazda 6 platform, but they are far from brothers. I know the Ford and Honda salesman would like you to believe that, but its not true. The only real similarity is the they both have a version of the 3.5L duratec motor. Thats it!!

The transmissions are entirely different as are the AWD systems. They are not any shared panels inside or out. The CX-9 is considerably bigger and from the reviews I've read the ride is completely different as well. My local dealer got there first two in this morning. It is a premium upscale vehicle. the Ford is no comparison at all. Two different classes of vehicle. I will be driving one later today or tomorrow, I'll let you guys know how that goes. Any of the press up to this point indicating that these vehicles are the same is just lazy journalism and simply not true.
