For the love.., I finally get some cash and then this

best way to see if its a bad alternator is to jump the car and then if the car dies when you take the cables off... your know for sure its the alternator. And then you can get ahold me by pm cause I have an extra alternator from my 02 P5 that will work in yours. Ill let it go for a decent amount as well. Just my 2 cents.

i dont think that works on modern cars.... I haven't tried it on any modern yet. However it did not work on my old 83 monte carlo... Doing that would kill it all the time even with a good bat and alt.

if the alt. is bad and not charging even if the vehicle does start it will eventually die once the battery is drained, modern or not.

good news just the main fuse so for the 7 dollar fuse and 93 dollars in labor I have a running P5 sitting in the drive way. Its strange though they didnt put the battery tie down back on....thats not normal is it? I guess the liquor, stripers, and gambling is back WOOT WOOT(nana)(bj)(bj)(bj)

I hate to rain on your parade but it is never a good sign when the main fuse blows. Either you had a bad fuse (pray for that) or something shorted enough current to cause a pretty high rated fuse to go. If that something did it once, it could do it again. If I were you I'd carry a spare main fuse from now on...

You mean it is just sitting in the tray, with nothing holding it in? Not only is that not normal it is reason enough to take it back and have them fix it.

I was at the gas station and looked over and saw the battery tie down was sitting on the floor, not to sure why they would put it there. anyway they are such asses at the dealer I just put it back myself (took all of 2 min.)

I hear what your saying about the fuse, thats why when I get my tax return im gunna buy a new car mazda of course

I misread what he was stating. I thought me was saying to simple disconnect the battery once the car is started. If the car stays runnings the alt is good if not then its bad. This does work on some older cars.

that is true on older cars, I wasn't trying to correct you by any means, so in the end I guess we were both worng sinc all he had to do is replace the main fuse. I hope i didn't burn any bridges. take care!

Check the fuse again dude

I need to know whats causing it to pop, I have literally only drive 14 miles and its out again, there is another problem somewhere that needs to be fixed.

alright so i got my car back from the dealer this afternoon, and was told that they checked all the charging components and the battery was no good. So I took the battery to autozone where i purchased it and was told that the battery tested good when i asked for a refund they told me the battery was used and couldnt take it back, when I asked for an exchange they told my sorry no can do. So I slung it in my car and it works. anyone have any new ideas cuz the problem has not been found yet and I am tirred of running around.

I recently replaced my headlights, maybe 2 weeks ago, do you think that could have anything to do with the blown fuse, and the other problems Ive been having?

The regulator is bad. The ECU is the regulator for our cars. Have that checked by a mechanic.
