I owned an '02 Audi A4 and a '04 Mazda 3 for about 3 years. No tickets and a couple of (not my wife's fault) fender benders in the A4. My insurance was about $850 every 6 months. I bought a speed 3 in Jan 07. I expected a large increase in my insurance but it was only about $100. Not bad. I don't won't this to change.
On the eve of Valentine's Day a guy blindly pulled out in front of me. I was only going about 20MPH. His '97 Cavalier was totaled. I couldn't believe the amount of damage to his car- both air bags, windshield, front end, engine bay, doors, etc. all of it distorted beyond recognition. Me - bumper, hood, left fender, head lights smashed in. I could have driven it away but the grille pierced the radiator. I was thinking "not bad" - no frame damage, no suspension damage, no airbags popped. I figured parts might take a while to ship on a car like this, but I'd be back in business in 2 or 3 weeks with 3 or 4 grand in repairs. Well, I guess I'm the idiot!
Apr 25, 9 weeks later my car was finally back to me. The shop did a decent job and took way longer than they should (that's another story), but the bill? Holy sh*t!! I know the other guys insurance is paying, but we all pay in the end.
$9300! Thats 5.8 years of insurance payments! I'm not feeling sorry for the company, but damn.
The cost of parts is insane.
$823 for each headlight, just the plastic, no HID stuff. That comes off the old lamps.
$514 for the black plastic ducting for intercooler that attaches to the underside of the hood??
$297 for the radiator but, $551 for the fan??
The list goes on and on.
I've got money, I can afford this, but it doesn't make it right and it's not fair for everyone else.
