For all of our insurance sake, don't crash your Speed 3

My condolences....

Sorry to hear about your black MS3, similar thing happened to me with about 4,000 miles on it. Was rear ended by a Dodge Ram HEMI with a 6 inch lift who was tailgating me in rush hour interstate traffic, I'm surprised my entire hatchback didn't collapse considering the size/weight/lift and chrome bumper. When he hit me it pushed me into a 12 year old Saturn that was in front of me. My front end damage wasn't nearly as bad, but the entire ordeal definitely left a bad taste in my mouth after only 3 months of purchasing the car. To add salt to the wound the autobody shop did a crappy paint job and had to re-paint the same area several times. This is also an autobody shop that stresses being the best in the northwest at fixing luxury imports, perhaps your car has to be valued at over $50k to get a decent repair from them or I just had a string of bad luck. It's been in and out of the shop since March and just yesterday hopefully it was the last visit.

Your car looks great and most importantly you are safe! I hope your future with your MS3 is safe and fun and the idiots on the road never find either of us again!

I owned an '02 Audi A4 and a '04 Mazda 3 for about 3 years. No tickets and a couple of (not my wife's fault) fender benders in the A4. My insurance was about $850 every 6 months. I bought a speed 3 in Jan 07. I expected a large increase in my insurance but it was only about $100. Not bad. I don't won't this to change.

On the eve of Valentine's Day a guy blindly pulled out in front of me. I was only going about 20MPH. His '97 Cavalier was totaled. I couldn't believe the amount of damage to his car- both air bags, windshield, front end, engine bay, doors, etc. all of it distorted beyond recognition. Me - bumper, hood, left fender, head lights smashed in. I could have driven it away but the grille pierced the radiator. I was thinking "not bad" - no frame damage, no suspension damage, no airbags popped. I figured parts might take a while to ship on a car like this, but I'd be back in business in 2 or 3 weeks with 3 or 4 grand in repairs. Well, I guess I'm the idiot!

Apr 25, 9 weeks later my car was finally back to me. The shop did a decent job and took way longer than they should (that's another story), but the bill? Holy sh*t!! I know the other guys insurance is paying, but we all pay in the end.
$9300! Thats 5.8 years of insurance payments! I'm not feeling sorry for the company, but damn.

The cost of parts is insane.
$823 for each headlight, just the plastic, no HID stuff. That comes off the old lamps.
$514 for the black plastic ducting for intercooler that attaches to the underside of the hood??$297 for the radiator but, $551 for the fan??
The list goes on and on.

I've got money, I can afford this, but it doesn't make it right and it's not fair for everyone else.

Comments? Similar stories?

Thanks,
Matt B
Seems a bit high bu in comparison, the hood itself is just under $600 and the fender liner is $98. I will check on Ultramate for those other parts to see if someone is fudging part prices.

my thinking was it might be easier to kill your engine in water with CAI installed (nailbyt)

well.... my wife drove it through a pretty decent size puddle, and NOT SLOW, so if you drive with it in mind, it shouldn't happen... i think shes just on a mission to kill my car, shes already killed one clutch. it won't normally happen though
