Can I get some recomendations on front speakers. I have the alpine type s 5x7's now. But the tweeter being so low is really pissing me off so Im ready to make the move to components.

Ive listened around and thouse alpine type r's have caught my attention. They can take so much power (I intend to throw some 200 watts to each) and still sound good. BUt the 6.5's have some insane 3" mounting dept. I think the 5x7's will fit but im not sure.

Im thinking about holding out for some 6.5's that will actualy fit in the doors. There supposed to sound better right. Anything in the same price range.

Its all about what you hear (and $$ )

I listened to more than a dozen types before I bought my Focals --- at first i was pissed off that the ones my ears liked were so damn expensive, but i went with my ear and payed the extra $$ and havnt been happier ----

I intend to amp with my 200x2 amp.
Price range IDK the alpines are going for 130 on ebay so I think thats a good deal. Only problem is that I cant use the 6.5 there and would have to go with the 5x7.

The only decent speakers Ive heard around here have been the alpines which a friend of mine has ( and best buy carries) and the clarion components, my uncle was using them from back in the late 90's dont know how the current model stacks up. No one around here is really into the audio stuff. Full on body kits yes but when it comes to sound they all run 5 ways and other crap like that.

but by the tiem you make a trim ring to turn your oval hole round, you've got an extra magic halfinch or so...

Hmm 1/2 inch trim ring, I was contemplating one of the little plastic adapters, with the extra 1/2 inch wouldnt the speaker grill and door be pushed up as well.

most the time there is room to move the speaker closer to the panel and not have it hit -- the spacer should only move the speaker -- not the door panel -- here is a picture of mine -- its not the best pic, but you can see the spacer used -- and mine or 6.5

I had the alpine type r's when I first put this system in, I got rid of them for the infinitys. The guys at Ultamate said that I wouldn't like them (type r)and they were right. In the store the alpine sounded better but in the car it's a hole differant story. I had the same deck and amp and totally killed 3 pairs of 5x7s and 6x9s. After the 3rd pair I put these infinitys in and I haven't had a problem sense. I listen to every thing from HM to sooth jass. The sound quality is great and it wont break the bank. IMO!

Bones how big is your spacer. I would probly build my own using mdf.

Ive destroyed quite a few speakers the alpines seem to holdup great, must be becuase of the aluminum cone.

to be honest -- its been so long that i cant remember.
from the pic i would guess 1/2 inch--

I hope that helps with some ideas for ya -- good luck

I just installed a set of JL Audio XR-650CSi comps, and I made spacers out of 1/2" MDF. It fits perfectly, and Home Depot sells MDF in 2' x 4' x 1/2" size, so you don't need a pickup truck to get it home!

I imagine you could even go with 3/4" MDF, but that might be cutting it too close to the door panel.

Killing speakers is NOTHING but improper setup, and or inability to back off of the volume knob once you hear clipping. Speakers surviving means NOTHING for sound quality. infact on the contrary it generally means a speaker will sound worse seeing as it'll be overbuilt and generally overbuilt means extra mass equating to slower responce.
