fog lights - no fog

Protege5, duh
Okay, I usually drive around at night with the fog lights switch depressed as a matter of course - mainly 'cause I think they look cool and it provides a little extra visibility. But the other day I was talking to this guy who was railing against all the idiots on the road that have their fog lights on and thoughtlessly blind on-coming drivers. I was like, "I do that", but I think the problem is more with SUV and big pickups that are a story off the ground. The P5 is so low to the ground that the light shouldn't bother anyone - but I have gottne the high-beam flash a couple of times.

What do you guys do?

**** 'em...it's your ride, and there's no way that our fog lights are reaching up into thier view. If they high-beam you, blind them right back! I ride with mine on all the time too, and I flash back anyone that thinks my lights are too bright.

It is more of a problem with SUVs and big truck, since the foglights on some of these things are almost at eye level for a person in a car. I remember riding around in my friend's dropped Integra and having the fogs of trucks actually shining DOWN at us. Sheesh. There's a reason why lowbeams are aimed down at the ground.

That said, driving around with your fogs on can be annoying to other drivers, especially if the roads are wet and the light reflects off the road, or if you have look at me! superwhite aux lights instead of actual, uh, fog lights (Not that those are necessarily bad - I grew up in Hawaii, home of Integras, Civics, and those great CRXs). Or, if you're like some people, whose fogs are misaligned and face upwards.

I only use mine when there's bad fog or lots and lots of spray from cars ahead of me. The headlights in the P5 are so bright that between them and the aquapel, I don't really need fogs except in the worst conditions. Doesn't really bother me when other people use them, but my father in law hates it. Dunno, it's a personal thing, I guess.

I get the light flash once in a while, too, so I flash them back, and they swerve around. But I even get that without my fogs on. The P5's beams are pretty damn strong, regardless of the fogs, so more likely than not, people think the car is using it's highs, when in fact it's not.

Happens in my SVX, too.

i cant wait to get my HID, then all who have ever flashed me will be sorry

Exactly our headlights appear to be high beams to some drivers. Forget which test it was but the Protege headlights came out near the top above some other higher price Luxary cars with HIDs.

The fogs should not have any affect on "normal" cars, they just feel like being arses.

this happens alot when you have a lot of luggage or heavy stuff in the trunk...like a big box of speakers or something :) fogs aren't causing it (unless you've re-aimed them) because they only make it about 15 ft in front of the car and are very dull looking to oncoming traffic. its definitely the headlights (which have been rated very very high in stock form, apparently beating out the TT HID's in visibility...(that's the word on the stree :))
(spin)

going back and forth to school way back when in the 240, i'd get flashed constantly; Ironically enought, it only happened when I had a full trunk.

Do a test for yourself. Go to an open space, like a country road, or a drive way if its long enough....hell, even a parking lot.

Sit there with you low beams on, NO fog lights. While sitting in the drivers seat, look at the light pattern on the pavement.

Now, turn on the fog lights. You will see a difference mainly in the immediate area in front of your car. As previously stated, it should be about no more than 15ft.

The law (at least ours) says you can have up to 4 lights on at once. Provided they are aimed properly...do whatever the hell you want (I drive with mine on all the time too)

well, they might be flashing you because with the chromed out headlight assy that we, in the US, have the light is reflected all over the damn place.
that's why its important to do the painting your headlight mod (its for safety of course :D).
but yeah I say if someone flashes you then you just have to let them know how much you appreciate their concern and flash them right back. turn on your high-beams (boobs)

(rofl2) (redp5)

I think driving with your fogs on all the time just makes you look like an ass, so I don't do it. If you want to, go nuts. Personally I think it's about as cool and sensible as driving with your wipers on all the time.

SUVs and trucks are another story, since their fogs are right in my eyes most of the time.

My BIGGEST problem is the idiots that drive with their rear fogs on. Most people that have them don't even know they have them. I can't even count the number of people I've told "your rear fog light is on" and got the reply "My what?".

some/most people's rear fog lights go on whenever the front fog lights are on. they have no idea.

i agree that some drivers might not think you need them on if it's not foggy, but our fog lights are mounted way to low to cause anyone any harm (unless of course you've re-aimed them higher)
