Fmic And Smic Info

you will have to do some cutting with just about any FMIC you install especialy the Perrin! SMIC are great because they are fairly easy to install dont require any cutting and normaly come with niftly looking little hard pipes but they will heat soak after about 45 mins of driving which means you loose power. The stock SMIC heat soak's after about 15 mins. of driving which just blows donky nuts. Now FMIC are great because they BLING BLING they are super effeciant and normaly wont ever heat soak due to there location on your car, so you can run all day and not loose power. They are a b**** to install almost always require some cutting or modding of the area behinde your bumper and routing piping is just never fun in tight spaces. I suggest you go with your gut and get what you like and take all this information they way you want. HP gains on a SMIC and FMIC are about the same one is just a little more effeciant than the other.

good reply.

I am planning on going turbohoses SMIC in a few months. i have the hardpipes sitting in my room right now, waiting for the install. Reason why i'm going this route: car can be returned to normal b/c i don't have to cut anything, alot easier install, about the same gains, improvement over stock bad smic, having good daily driveability is very important to me, and the stealth look... hehe... :)

If you are getting a SMIC then I suggest that you go to www.protegegagrage.com and purchase a Cryo2 SMIC chiller it will help emensly with heat soak on that particular set up.

Link no worky

Ti99-thanks for he explanation. I'll likely go for a SMIC due to ease of installation and stealth factor. Although the bling is sweet.

Are there any other SMIC's for the MSP besides Turbohoses and Custom MSP's? I need to take another look at Custom MSP's (if there are any more). I think all fitment issues (if we want to call them that) have been worked out. I know function wasn't being compromised so maybe no changes were made to that design.

Could I just buy a intercooler of that size, and hardpipe up to that??

not true,
Turbo Hoses SMIC and CustomMSP SMIC do not heatsoak if u run boost 9 and below.

not true again.
FMIC require more volume for the turbo to fill (especially our t25).
longer spoolup, less bottom end power.
unless u up the boost after installing FMIC u will loose power.

at 9 psi SMIC feel better than FMIC.
car has power throughout the RPM band.
now at 14 psi that's another story.

Uh oh, here's some conflict. I think we can all agree about the 'bling' factor.

But simply for performance if not boosting over 10psi it seems smic is the way to go.

"Turbo-hoses, Why so Expensive?"

yeah, expensive stuff, but it's quality stuff. turbohoses hardpipes are nice quality, silicone connectors and clamps are top quality too. haven't ordered the smic, but i will soon and i'm sure it's top notch.

We will need to add Corksports FMIC once it is released. And check out the preorder special price....FMIC basically for the price of Turbohoses SMIC.

Corksport seems to make quality products as well. The only real disadvantage to the Corksport unit is that it will require some cutting. Oh well, but bump for a great price.

just curious...someone settle the debate for me....if you plan to keep stock boost with a smic and 3 inch turbo back will this be a good stock set up? I just bought the custom smic and perrin exhaust...the only mods from here will be dsm and intake mani.....any advice? I just want a good solid 190-200 whp....

yup the SMIC is perfect for that.. well other then the fact that FMICs look sexy

When's CorkSport's FMIC being released?
I want to compare it to my one and only FMIC of Choice right now
BEGi FMIC before I buy it.

Okay, after extensive searching of the site, I must know of this Cryo2 SMIC chiller that you speak of. I can't find it...

theres a couple things that are very important and havnt been mentioned:

1. Which FMIC/SMIC produces the most power rank in order
2. Which FMIC/SMIC cools down the air the most, rank in order
3. Dyno graphs of the before and after effects
4. Does size of the intercooler really make a difference besides looks?

Well, I don't know if this will help you but I have the CustomMSP SMIC installed on my car and it's helped out greatly. I found it to be a great buy. If I had to buy a FMIC, I would go with the MAM FMIC or the Hiboost FMIC. From what I understand, both those FMIC's are a great kit for your money. If you want a reliable name, then go with the Perrin FMIC. It all comes down to what, do you want to do to your car. Internals changed = FMIC, Basic bolt-ons = SMIC It's all up to you. Just my $0.02

Perrin INTERCOOLER

Hi, can anyone help me understand a concern i have about the perrin intercooler, please? i was told that the support beams that help make the car's bumper stronger in case of an accident has to be removed and cannot be reused when installing the perrin intercooler. Perrin provides a their own support beam, but, this isn't going to be as strong as the OEM support beam as it has not been tested like the OEM has.

My question is, many people say that Perrin is the best quality intercooler to go with, but should i be concerned about the safety issue about not having the OEM support beams for the bumper?

If so, what is the next option for a FMIC that works well and covers the safety issue as well? by the way, i don't race my car, just like to have the car breath comfortable so i can enjoy the little extra for the daily driving.

Anyone, let me know, please! thanks!!

in that case SMIC will suit you just fine.
if all u do is daily driving without pushing a lot of power then SMIC is the best choice.
support beam is untouched, and you dont loose spoolup time ;)

I am going to buy a fmic soon and it's between mam's perrin and highboost. it seems that perrng has the largest core, but for some reason I think I remember reading somwhere that a larger core can hurt the performance. I know it's not that much larger but just want to know. I am also planning on running a larger turbo set up for my msp also. maybe a t-28 rs
