Fluid equivalents

Is there an equivalent to 'Mazda' branded fluids? I do not have a local dealer nearby and am do for the trans drain/fill, transfer case and diffs pretty soon. Is there anything I can get from the parts store or should I eat the shipping costs to get genuine Mazda fluids back in? Thanks

For the transfer case and rear diff it's just 80w90 gear oil. Except for the extra $$ mazda long life lube, the regular mazda branded 80w90 doesn't seem to have anything special (.e mazda 5w20 w/moly).

You can try to order those Mazda fluids online. You can also avoid expensive shipping charges by ordering more than $100 from our sponsor Mad Center Mazda with some additional OEM maintenance parts. Personally I definitely would use Mazda Genuine ATF FZ as you're mixing at least half of the old ATF with your new fluid by drain-and-fill and you want the new and old fluid totally compatible. Mazda also specifies new Mazda Long Life Hypoid Gear Oil SG1 for front transfer case and rear differential. Be watchful that you need more than 1 quart total for both front transfer case and rear differential as the spec of capacity for rear differential is too low at 0.48 quart.

I didnt realize they took 80w90. I havent got a service manual anywhere yet so was assuming it was some exotic oil.

I travel for work and am going to try and find a call that will allow me to get to a dealer to get trans fluid. I kinda spaced this car doesnt have a front diff

Since you've asked we assume you have an AWD CX-5, not a FWD. AWD or FWD, you do have front differential but it's built in with front transfer case. For AWD the front transfer case has an additional output shaft connecting to rear differential.

It is AWD, just used to trucks/SUVs so I just assumed the front diff..instead of the transaxle. Closest dealer is about 3 hours away. If I can make it down there I will probably buy all Mazda fluids, just rolled 62k

Definitely use Mazda Coolant. The coolant has additives to protect seals like the water pump has and different brands use different stuff that is not necessarily compatible with the material used in the seals.

Most of the fluids are typical automotive lubes, see the owner's manual for specs. You can download the OM if you don't have one.

Don't mess with the trans fluid unless you have the EXACT stuff to replace it. It is an new-ish, unusual synthetic and should not be mixed with the common trans lube, says my favorite import mechanic. I have seen it on Amazon.

I'm using OEM for oil & filter, Amsoil for front transfer & rear diff and OEM for AT,

It appears this can be used for AT as well.
