Flickering DRL and Replacement Headlights (2015 CX-5)

I have a 2015 CX-5 and the right hand daylight running light or DRL has failed. I know that the unit costs approximately £800 without VAT and fitting and when I try to find the headlight with the LED DRL, i can find them abroad and I also find other versions of headlights for the 2015 model for much less in price. If I have the facelift DRL lights, can the non facelift lights go in their place.

Technically, I could get 2 newer headlights cheaper than 1 new facelift headlight.

Are there after market light? Are there any changes to wiring if I get either the non facelift lights or adter market lights

Not sure about the facelift/non-facelift thing, but given that you quote cost in GBP I assume you're in the UK. So, you'll need to make sure your replacements are from a right-hand-drive country (probably only direct from Japan outside the UK).

Best bet is to look for one on ebay or at the breakers.
With aftermarket adaptive lights might not work.
Another option is to take the headlight apart and re solder all SMDs. The only thing is that you better off doing that on both sides as the colour might be different a bit.
Mine is flickering as well and few SMDs are out so planning on doing it myself over half term

SMDs are LEDs that are mounted onto the strip.
Light comes apart by heating the resin of the glass and separating the glass from the body.
The actual job is fiddly, but I think all that fiddling is worth the price of the new headlight. I'll try and find a video, however none of English speaking population of earth posted one yet

And how do the lights come apart? Is this tried and tested? I am quite technically minded and as far as I can tell, the lenses and headlight body are glued together.

Use Google translate.
Guy recorded videos, even if you don't understand what he's saying you can see what's involved.
Here's another video quite detailed as well.
Now after watching this, tell me that it's impossible to replace and why we are all forced to get new units?!
I also tried to find a specialist in the UK, but no one seem to do such work. There are no mechanics/ electronic/ electrical engineers anymore. Everyone is just a fitter. They know how to replace the part according to manual, same as most of us can do, but can't fix them!
