Fixed Alarm issues FYI

I had the typical alarm module failures, drained 3 batteries, lights stayed on with no way of shuting them off, and finally the car stopped starting. The dealership wanted $99/hr to diagnose, and would've needed to have my car towed, which would've been another $75 to $100. So knowing that I would be going to a Viper alarm if I couldn't get it fixed, I took the 4 screws out of the alarm module back cover. I wouldn't recommend this if you still have a warranty on the car, because the screws are covered by the sticker. Removing the cover revealed that there were cold solder joints in at least a dozen spots. If you're handy with a soldering gun, resolder the whole board. I did that and reinstalled the alarm, hooked up the battery and it worked. We'll see how long, but at least it gets me back on the road without paying a dime to the dealership. They insisted that the car "is supposed to start without the alarm module plugged in" and "insisted it wasn't the alarm module"... Hopefully someone else can try this to see if I just got lucky!
Now when the snow melts, time to go for a drive! Just got my license re-instated today after 1 year, so I wanna drive!

Cool deal. When I had problems with mine I just stopped using it for a while. Started double arming it and that seemed to help. Now I can arm it once and its been fine for over a year. Its such a whacky alarm.

So far so good, and its only been 2 days. No problems. My alarm has been wacky since I bought the car brand new, and I can't even lock the car with the remote. As long as the car starts, the module lasts for a year or so, I can live without the remote lock, since I'm used to it already. You're right about the wacky alarm, I wish it'd work like it's supposed to, at least for me...oh well, love the car, I can live without the alarm working like it's supposed to, small price right now.

I'll post back here when my solder job fails, so everyone has an idea of how long this lasts, it'd be great if it's forever, but don't hold yer breathe!

Still Going!

So far, so good. Haven't had any issues with the alarm. Of course, since it never worked right to begin with, I don't arm it with the key fob. The solder job is working still.
