Fix Up Plastic Scratches in Tailgate / 3rd Row Side Panels

The 3rd row seats go down to haul groceries or a stray bicycle, bag or box. The 3rd row seats come up to carry the carpool or a few more friends on the weekend. So the cycle goes. I guess it's inevitable with the cargo and people in that area - the plastic panels on either side of the tailgate get a bit scratched up here and there - as does the inside of the liftgate door itself.

Anyone have tips on how to clean up/fix/at least improve the scratches in these relatively soft plastic panels? I've been thinking maybe some super-fine sandpaper?

I'm sure some of you out there know what's best - so let me know.

Thanks in Advance!

I have similar scratches.. I'd be interested to know to to remove them. But for now,.. Our Mazda5 wears them with pride.:). The alternative was to keep them covered with plastic just like how people keep new couch and sofas covered in plastic.

I think the MAZDA5 is 'the car of choice' in the family. It is bound to gather
its share of 'battle scars'.

I've found that a good treatment with armor-all helps make the scratches on the panels less noticeable...

I have the same issues because of my golf bag. Like what dan4behr stated, a good treatment of Armor-All will help lessen the obvious.
