First Stock Cai For The Speed3

The MS3 CAI gives you a cool, subtle BOV sound without actually losing the bypassed airflow. The tubing and acousticaly open cone air fliter just let you hear the pressure release. Believe me, the gains are worth it! I can feel the difference with the MS CAI; it's noticeably stronger now and seems to have more torque at lower RPMS.

now that's what I'm talking about!! In a few weeks I'll get mine on the way...my first mod on the new ride!!!

Yeah, as soon as I get my CAI, I will have my local dealership do the installation as to not void the warranty.

Smart idea...and while it certainly wouldn't automatically (but it could!) void your warranty if you did it yourself, it is taking Mazda 1.5 - 2.5 hours to put them in. Something to think about. I think it is worth the extra $100 - $200 to have them do it for you.

As far as the sound...I am very much neutral to it. I don't think it sounds cool, but not bad either. It just is. I do have to say the power gains are nice...and you feel it....that is what it is all about for me.

It does not void your waranty if you install it yourself, All that happens is if the intake breaks, which it shouldn't, you have to re-install it yourself. Does changing your own oil or air filter void your waranty? NO and your are much more likely to do damage while changing your oil.

Dread, I am not trying to bust your chops here, but you are not necessarily correct, and I think your advice, given with such a cavalier choice of words, could be misunderstood.

If someone installs any modification that could be shown (by the dealer) to have caused a problem, then yes, they have absolutely 100% voided their warranty on the associated problem / parts. Your example of an oil change is all but the most simple of exercises that nearly 99% of the public could accomplish. However, if for some reason you were so inept and managed to strip the threads on the oil filter, drove the car, leaked enough oil out, and then siezed the engine --- Mazda would be under no obligation to honor your warranty. If your radio happened to stop working just because you put on a CAI, however, they would still need to replace the radio under their implied warranty obligations.

Bear in mind the dealer must show that your modification caused the particular problem, but that may not be as hard as it sounds. Considering the freedom in which a mechanic / dealer can define "the problem" it will come down to your relationship with the dealer more than anything else.

Remember something else very important, just because you buy and use official Mazda parts (aka non-aftermarket), you are still not officially certified to service your vehicle. (Unless you are a certified Mazda tech!)

The bottom line is that if you trust you are good enough to put on the CAI, go for it. I, for one, can change my own oil or replace my air filter -- but I didn't feel ok putting on my CAI. Once we start getting much past oil, air filters, brakes, and a few other things, I have to yield to my limitations of equipment and experience.

Oh yeaaahhh, got the new speed3 CAI. Just arrived. Haven't installed it yet, they wanted 285 for installation. Oh come now.... thats aprox 300/hour fee. So anyway out the door price was aprox 360 for those who are interested. No way was I going to spend that money for a simple installation...the piece comes with easily to understand installation instructions.... god knows the techs at Mazda have never done this before so why let them test their skill out on my new car. Not going to void my warranty either. Look I am not in the market to spend time installing an aftermarket piece and then have to take it apart when I need to get my vehicle maintained. Got to love Norco Mazda.... first Mazda approved CAI in southern Calianyone want to purchase a stock airbox???

2 hours till I start installing my mazdaspeed CAI. First performance upgrade :)

Wow, that's a weird place for the CAI. But I understand where it is from your picture. Seems like the Shield should've been between the filter and the ground?

its not possible to put it there the bracket on the pipe itself positions the shield there

It is a heat shield, that is why it is placed between the filter and the motor. The stock fender liner/splash guard is sufficient.
