First/Second gear dyno/hp numbers?

Has anyone dyno'd a ms3 in first or second gear or know what power is put out in those gears with stock boost levels? Not worried about other mods.

Considering going back to stock setup for autocross this year since I think boost limits in low gears will hurt any chances of being competitive against the evo's and sti's in STU.

Thanks!

1,2, boost

iv'e heard; no boost in 1st . second has low boost as mazda was trying to control wheelspin i could be out there but my stock 60ft times made sense 3rd feels like the supposed full 15.6lbs

uhhhh not right.
Thats not even what he was asking., he wants to know how much horsepower we make in those gears.

1st is set to ~5, 2nd isset to ~10

Ummm your wrong too...lol.

Stock with just a boost gauge I spiked 12psi and went down to 10ish in first and depending on how the car felt 2nd was between 12-14psi.

With just a intake 1st is about the same and 2nd gear is just like all the other gears depending on traction :)

well everybody posts something different.
1 is extreemely limited, 2nd is limited as well, then all the other gears should hodl 15.6.

To the OP I'm sorry I dont have an answer to your original question.

Hmm. Here's my take on things.:

1st is limited, especially if the wheels are turned at all. Full throttle anytime with the wheels straight and it's instant wheelspin.

2nd is limited, especially if the wheels are turned at all. Full throttle above 2500 RPM with the wheels fairly straight and it's wheelspin.

3rd may be limited, but it feels like it has more acceleration than 2nd. Full throttle through the gear and I start to get wheelspin around 4000 RPM.

4th and up is clearly not limited, but I have noticed on occasion that it feels as though my stock BPV is leaking. In 4th in the rain I can get wheelspin if I stab the throttle above 4000 RPM instead of rolling into it.

On the dyno, I'm guessing that if you didn't spin, 1st would show HUGE TQ numbers and not so much HP. 2nd would show a bit less TQ and a bit more HP. 3rd will continue the trend. 4th IMO is the ideal gear for the dyno.

I have a boost gauge and see around 8-10 in first and second and 15 in third. Not the most acruate readings because I hardly get on boost in low gears and the gears are so short when you get on hard it is hard to tell when boost spike is settled down before time to shift again. I granny drive on the street (wrc)

I'm asking because in autocross I will probably never hit third gear. Can't turn up boost in the class I'm in. Thinking of going back to stock or maybe up to DSC where you can boost control.

Anyone want to make a guess at how much hp in first and second gear at around 5500 rpm? How about a guesstimate?

This may be completely wrong, but I was googling something yesterday about the ms3, and some autocross forum said it was like 220 or something, most likely bhp though. 220 whpwouldnt make sense.
I will try to find that thread later on after I get off work.

you should get 8-10psi boost in 1st 12-14psi in second then 15-16 3rd. I get 16psi in first and 17psi in second...:)

yeah ive got the standback and it gives alot more boost in first and second plus it holds past 6k, i have it set to 17.9psi

sorry about that, just trying to share my experience with 1,2,3rd gear exiting corners i think ill eagle94 is correct about wheel angle and mazdas tune i thought it might make sense. no dyno tll spring. again sorry

I am 100% stock except boost gauge and all I see is:
1st: 9-11psi
2nd: 10-12psi
3rd: 12-13psi
4th: 12-14psi
5th: 13-14psi
6th: 14-occasionally 15psi

The ONLY time I EVER see 15.6 is if I roll on in 6th from like 2800rpm, which is no good for the car, but I was just trying to see if I could actually hit 15psi.

The car still feels strong (half the time, fickle ecu...) and will still spin the tires most of the time from a 2nd gear roll on. So, I'm assuming for my car this is normal. Also maybe I will get lucky and just benefit that much more from cranking the boost up.
