first mazda. just got a speed3!

hey guys, i just traded in my 06 scion tC for a mazdaspeed 3 in silver. loving the car so far (eventhough it cost 7 g-units more ) it has almost 150 miles on it because i had to drive it from la. how should i break it in? and i wanted to know where i can get some amber side markers?? thanks a lot guys.

hey i got a black gt with nav .. love it!!!, if i was you i would take it easy for the first 6-800miles wait till thet weird break in smell goes away

ok. i've already ripped it a few times to show my friends and stuff. i'll take it a little easier for the first 1,000. then should i get an oil change? my friend told me to run it hard for the first 1,000 and then change the oil and drive it normal.

Thats pretty much the opposite of what you should do. Take it easy for the first couple thousand my friend.

new engines dont have the same break in period for the seals as older engines did because the tolerances are tighter with better manu.

during the breakin period, though, dont redline the car (keep it under 5k tops) and dont go over 3/4 of top speed. also, do not cruise @ a set speed for too long until the engine is completely broken in. on the highway vary your speed.

I wouldnt worry too much about the few times you ran it hard... there are different ways to break in the engine. some suggest running it easy, others suggest a few flat-out runs to fully breakin the engine. it depends on who you talk to.

DO change the oil @ 1k miles though. and switch to synthetic while youre @ it. then you can continue with normal 3k oil change intervals.

ok cool. i had to drive the car home for about an hour and a half and i used cruise control for most of the time. i varied it a little bit. should i be ok? i haven't red lined the car yet, but i've shifted at 6k a few times. i'll take it a little easier i guess. its just hard to keep those ponies in their stables. thanks guys. any word on the amber side markers?

why 3k oil change intervals?

owners manual says every 7500 OR every 5000 in 'severe' conditions i.e.: lots of short distance driving or driving in dusty conditions.

Changing synthetic every 3k is a waste of money. Lots of evidence on this if you look around, lots of people have had their used oil analyzed and found that good synthetics were still very good after 3000 miles.



And about break in, talk to professional racers and people that build race engines and see what they say. The more I look around and talk to people who do this kind of thing for a living, they say you are better off to drive it hard for break in. There is a website out there that gives the reasoning behind this and it makes perfect sense to me. Google "secret break in method" or something like that it's easy to find.
