ooo that's a cool website! thanks! *crosses fingers and hopes CEL doesn't come back tomorrow*

ya, who knows...maybe the gas cap was never tighten down enough...you'll find out soon enough!! :)

So you cleared the CEL code and its still gone?

If it isnt the gas cap, you could have a leak from from the vacuum line to the intake manifold from the evap sensor/switch.

Theres a sensor that connects on one side to the intake mani, and the other side to the charcoal canister. If that has a leak or if that sensor is malfuctioning it will cause grief and pull a code.

Hope it was just your fuel cap tho.

it's still gone...but I only drove it for a few miles after I had the code cleared. Tomorrow I'll drive about 40 miles with it, and Saturday I'll drive about 400 miles, so we'll see!

OBD2 is anal.

If you were gonna pull a code, it would happen pretty quick.

On my 2000 Celica, I was pulling a code for lean condition. It was due to a dirty MAF sensor. I didnt clean the right part of the sensor, cleared the ECU of codes and within 15 minutes of driving that code came right back.

OBD2s tolerance of being out of spec is pretty low, so if it was still problematic, it SHOULD have pulled a CEL by now within 40 minutes.

lol I've seen more than that. When I forgot to plug my downstream O2 back in after the header install, after clearing the CEL, I could start the car then drive it as long as I want, the CEL wouldn't come back on until I turned off the enging and started it a 2nd time

it all depends on the severity of the code. say for instance you unplug the intake air temp sensor and the light will come right on. if its something like a evap code, the computer will have to go thru its evap cycles a few times before it will throw a code.

On the O2 sensor, when I did Eriks engine a few weekends ago, I didnt have the lower bank sensor installed and it immediately pulled a code. When I installed it, the code immediately went away.

Hopefully its gone for you tho.

it didn't come back today! and I drove it 40 miles - 20 miles each way to work. (2thumbs)

This Saturday I'll drive it almost 500 miles, so I'll definitely know by then!

Hi Guys, I had the CEL come on today, so I checked it with a reader. It gave me P 0421, which is Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1).
What is this specifically?

That code specifies your bank 1 sensor is reading incorrectly.

Either the sensor is bad or your cat isnt functioning correctly.
