So yeah I finally got a set of winter wheels and tires. They are just regular tires that came off a 2007 Mazda 3. They are 16" and Im kinda curious to see how they do. They have to be better than what was on there with the potenza's.. cause they were just simply bad.. Here are some pics

I should be getting some 17x8 black wheels off a Evo 8 here soon but they wont go on till spring/summer. Next up is fixing the bumper and prolly the wheel bearing. Even they are completely stock.. still tell me what you think. I didnt go for show.. I just went for something I wouldnt die in.
 
thank you robin2660.. yeah I havent had the greatest luck with the car in the elements so far. Its getting fixed though.. as soon as it stops snowing and gets nice out. IDK what kind of tires they are.. but they are magnificent. 1000 times better than the stock performance potenzas. I was actually doing the speed limit tonight on my way home.. instead of the usual 10mph lol. I got to test them out if you couldnt tell.. cause we got hit with a winter storm tonight. Just in time... Thank you stock mazda 3 tires.
 
Nothing wrong with 'stock' Mazda alloys for winter driving - 16" '07 M5s on an '08 M3 Sport GT.
. . . they look sooooooo much better than those fugly gheto black steelies !

Mazda 3 in the snow? Stock Goodyear Eagle Radials -- help

Hi there. I'm wavering about buying the Mazda 3 s GT 2008 and am very concerned about driving it in the snow (my 1999 acura integra 4 door FWD was stolen last week but was good in the snow). I took it for a spin/test drive tonight in a snowy parking lot and compared it to another car in the same exact test and it did not seem to do well. Question for you experts...is it the tires (i.e., is the Goodyear Eagle Radial All Season Stock tire not good in the snow?), should I just face it that unless I get snow tires I shouldn't consider the car without being afraid for my life in snowy conditions like that? I do not want to buy snow tires but if buying a diff brand of all weather would help me significantly I'd consider that given the price diff between the other car I'm looking at.

Help please...I've searched up and down the forum for some info but can't get what I need.

I can't believe any of you maniacs ever even considered driving your MS3s in snow/cold weather with the stock summer tires. That's just insane (and not the tire's fault).
 
My 08 GT came with summer tires, so switching to anything that isn't summer only will be an improvement.

All seasons are at best a compromise, but 10x better than summer only tires.

I ran all seasons on my Mazdaspeed Miata for the winter, and it got around just fine.
 
stock tires are All Weather not Summer

The M3 stock tires are the Goodyear Eagle All-Season Radials so up here in the North East they must come with something diff than potentially down south. But even with these it doesn't seem to be very good. I'm wondering if its these stock tires that stink or if the car in general won't be very good either way in the snow (or if really my only option is to have to own two sets of wheels and use snow tires).

i agree... i had the stock tires on my mz3 until last weekend, when i was sliding around in the cold and it wasnt really even icy out. got some winter tires put on the stock wheels, bought some new wheels for the summer tires, and the car handles snowy mountain roads just fine now. couldn't believe what a difference just rubber made.
 
The same here... the night I got my new rims and tires put on.. we had a pretty big snow storm. So I was extremely happy that I got these put on when I did. 100X difference from the stock potenza's. And I know its not the tires fault.. Im just extremely surprised Mazda would put these kind of tires on for people in the midwest and other places that have weather. But to answer your ??? I thought the all season tires on the Mazda 3 are good.. cause thats what I have on the front 2. But if you really dont think they are doing that good of a job.. then yeah prolly some winter tires are in order. But then I also think the all seasons should be perfectly fine for ya. Like I said.. just be glad they arent the stock potena's on the Speed3.. cause I have nothing good to say about them.. till it reaches 50 degrees or above.

Car manufacturers, as a rule, put tires on that are speed rated high enough to cope with the vehicles' top speed, if only to avoid lawsuits should people drag or track their cars.

This means we needed some form of performance tire. I am personally glad they put summers on because for people in the midwest, the northeast/northwest (or ANYWHERE), and people in Canada, it is a fairly strong indication to get winter specific tires. No-seasons don't really cut it if it is consistently close to freezing and/or occasionally snowy.
 
so...for the slow(me)

So to sum up what everyone's saying. Stock summer tires seem to be sold on some of the M3's but not others (as I noted, its appearing like the latest 2008 are being sold with All Weather Radials from Goodyear Eagle) stink in the snow of course, while if you have the right All Weather tire the car handles well and you don't feel like you may die on a windy hilly road on a very snowy day. I didn't feel good in those stock Goodyear Radials though that are claimed to be all weather and I'm a very comfortable driver in my old Acura 4 door Integra that had all weathers and around the same size car. So, this right now is the differentiator between me buying the M3 GT and not...so more input would really help here...sorry I keep asking but I'm still not sure I have it down.

All the Mazdaspeed3's come with summers.

All-seasons are "okay" in most weather conditions (not good in summer or winter or rain or snow, but acceptable).

Summers are good in warm weather conditions (wet or dry) but suck when it gets cold and/or icy/snowy.
 
Snow tire will make the car drive great in the winter. All seasons not so much. Summers not at all, not even around the block.
